How to Make a Homemade Colon Cleanse

Most of us know what constitutes a healthy diet, but knowing and doing are two different things altogether. Even though we know better, we often eat far too much processed food that is loaded with carbs and fats. Not only is this not good for our body weight and shape, it can also mean our digestive systems are functioning at a less than optimal rate. Fortunately, there is a way to clean out your digestive tract, removing any waste lodged there, and giving your body a clean slate. This can easily be done by adding a colon cleanse to your regimen.

One of the most popular methods of colon cleansing is to drink a psylliium powder and bentonite clay (P & B) shake. Even though there are many pre-made shakes available for purchase on the internet, they are generally quite expensive, and it’s easy to make a homemade colon cleanse using ingredients from your local health food store. The main ones you’ll need to get are psyllium powder and bentonite clay liquid. The clay can also be purchased in powder form, but since you’ll need to get it into a liquid state anyway, it’s easiest if you can just skip that step.

For each shake, start with 8-10 ounces of water, then add one tablespoon each of the psyllium powder and bentonite clay. Stir or shake until dissolved, then drink. Once you’ve finished the shake, follow it with a big glass of water. The shake itself tends to be dehydrating, so it’s best to start out as hydrated as possible.

While on a homemade colon cleanse regimen, start with one shake per day for about a week. If your body seems to be responding well, increase that amount weekly until you are drinking 3-5 shakes per day. You should expect the entire process to take a few months total. If you feel sick at any point, stop using the shake. It may also make you feel constipated, so if this is a problem, cut back on the amount you are drinking daily.

In addition to the shake, your digestive tract will benefit if you switch to eating a lot of raw foods and those high in fiber. Also be sure to take a probiotic, because the shake will cleanse good bacteria out of your system along with the bad, which can lead to digestive problems.

Keep in mind that, though a homemade colon cleanse can be highly effective, it might need some time to work. Be patient, and keep at it. It might take a month or more, but you will see results!
