Tyra is probably the first celebrity I heard about wearing Lace Front Wigs. Beyonce, though this is not confirmed, and I could be dead wrong is the second.

The concept of the Lace Front Wig is to give the wearer a more natural looking hair line. Lace is applied around the hair line of the face and can be glue down. The lace is see--through so the wearer’s skin shows through. This makes the wig less noticeable and gives the appearance of being your own hair. (Which really doesn’t matter because as we say in the shop, “It’s your hair girl, you bought it!)

The most important thing about wearing these wigs is that you must trim down the lace!

I will never forget the day I had a client in my chair who had obviously, never heard of or seen a Lace Front Wig. While I was removing the rod curlers from her hair she asked the lady who owns the shop where I work since she sells wigs there about a wig that had a visor type thing hanging off of it. She had seen a friend of hers in the grocery store one day and she had a wig on with a “visor thing” hanging off the front of it.

Stumped for just a moment, we both looked up and asked, “Visor type thing?” My client, as serious as she could be said yes. After we tossed the idea around in our heads, asking her some more questions we realized that she had to be talking about a Lace Front Wig and we commenced to cracking up with laughter! When we explained to the client why we were laughing and actually showed her one of the wigs, she laughed too.

Usually, these wigs are not cheap because they are made of human hair, so not wearing them properly really is a shame. (For a less expensive version you may purchase a synthetic wig. These are fine but you will not be able to style it with heat, human hair lace fronts are just like your hair and can be washed and styled with a curling or flat iron).

One last thing, if you are going to try a Lace Front Wig, please trim the lace. I don’t think one of their features includes hiding you from the shade.
