Bartender!

Good morning, everyone. Today is Thursday, June 25, 2009. Today's breakfast will be Peach Brandy because sometimes the news gets to be a little too much and we must face the day a little fortified. If you care to join me you will need 2 cups of pitted coarsely chopped peaches, 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, 1 cup light brown sugar, 2 cups nonfat plain yogurt and either 3 or 30 tablespoons of brandy!

Place the peaches and lemon juice in a food processor and puree for 1 minute. Add the sugar and puree for 30 seconds more. Pour the mixture into a mixing bowl and fold in the yogurt and brandy and mix well. Chill for about 1 hour. While we are waiting for the the Peach Brandy to set up, let's sip some brandy straight from the bottle and talk about gun control or the lack thereof.

...POP...I know we will all sleep better tonight knowing that people on the government's terrorist watch list tried to buy guns 1,000 times in the last 5 years. This fact may not come as much of a surprise. The fact that federal authorities allowed the sale of weapons to these people 9 out of 10 times is, on the other hand, unbelievable.

Due to a perverse loophole in the law, people who are on government terror watch lists can be stopped from boarding a plane or acquiring a visa, but they can't be prevented from buying a gun. The only thing that might prevent the terrorist from his gun purchase would be if he was a terrorist with a drug problem, or perhaps a terrorist who enjoys committing felonies, or a terrorist who is also an illegal immigrant. Apparently, just being an actual terrorist with murder and mayhem on his mind is not enough to prevent him from his purchase.

This is our government hard at work without the benefit of common sense to guide them. I'm sure this explains my breakfast choice today. Drink up and be careful out there!

What's so bad about a suspected terrorist without the right to purchase firearems? I am all for equality, but we do need to have common sense, as POP clearly stated. If the suspected terrorist turns out to be a "non-terrorist", then he/she and I will truly be equal - both without firearms.
