A Million Drawings For Cancer Research
74
Dare to fight cancer with creativity
My daughter and I were brainstorming different ideas as we sometimes do. We came up with the notion that I could raise a million dollars for cancer research by drawing over a million drawings. Isabella's Mom passed away from cervical cancer nearly ten years ago and since that time we have seen improvements in prevention like the HPV vaccine as well as other cancer research breakthroughs like Proton Therapy.
The Challenge:
I will render each drawing by hand on a 3 x 5 inch card, signed and numbered. We ask that you send a SASE (self-addressed stamped envelope) with correct postage back to your home. If you live outside the United States you will have to check to see what regular postage costs. You may include a word or a sentence of what you would like the drawing to be inspired by, you may also include a short dedication to be hand written on the art.
With each envelope please include at least a one dollar (American) donation to work towards our goal and to help with costs. The majority of donations will go directly to The Cancer Research Institute (see link below), an organization that regularly ranks highest for cancer research charities where the vast majority of donations go to research programs.
My daughter and I will post updates on our progress on this Hubpage, we encourage you to check back often! We hope to turn the drawings around each within 2-6 weeks but we can't guarantee any turn around time. You can check on our progress as I just mentioned on either Hubpages.
Please send all SASE's and $1 donations to:
A Million Drawings For Cancer
c/o Artist Ben Zoltak
P.O. Box #92
Cottage Grove, WI 53527
U.S.A.
Put us to work, one drawing done, nine hundred ninety nine thousand and nine hundred and ninety nine to go. Our goal is to raise one million dollars for The Cancer Research Institute and as such if we do not raise that amount with a million drawings we plan to create over a million.
If no donation is included we reserve the right to create or not create a piece of art correspondingly, to dispose of the SASE or return the SASE as received. Each drawing is rendered only once and cannot be returned for revisions. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your drawing feel free to donate more than once. But again, no drawings will be returned after initial mailing.
Progress Updates:
As requests come in we will post updates to our progress here! November 2009
The majority of all donations will go to The Cancer Research Institute
Each drawing will be unique

- How To Draw Characters: A Friendly Introduction
Meet Ken, his hair is thinning, he has robust sideburns and he's happy although just a little pensive. This is a basic introduction to drawing characters. I've included three sample drawing charts each with...

words cocktail, are you still in Australia? Think of it as an excuse to explore your new country's infrastructure! I thought of directing an account towards Paypal, but then if I can make a million drawings, I figured others could fill out one SASE. But maybe you're right, thanks for the food for thought words cocktail! What do you think, should I set up a dedicated Paypal account? Would that work for a dollar donation?
Sure Ben, a Paypal account set up would be easier for the e-world people you know?!? And will definitely increase the probability for people who are lazy!
As far as i am concerned, don't worry SASE is actually not a BIG deal as compared to what you are about to begin here!! :)
I wish this aim of yours is successful to the core!Good luck, again.
words cocktail: I will try and put your suggestion forward this weekend, maybe a PayPal account would encourage people to contribute a little bit more than a dollar too. I've recently taken up another project to keep the wolf at the door around here so to speak, but I would love to take the Million Drawings For Cancer on full force and abandon everything else (except the occasional Hub of course)Thanks for the kudos and encouragement! We need it! Feel free to throw any more suggestions are way! Every Australian I've met in my life (which has only been a few) were all vigorous, potent spirits, must be something in the water down under. Cheers! Ben
I LOVE THIS IDEA!
I lost my first born in October 2003, to cancer (not sure if you have read that hub or just the ones on my perceptions on relationships and men :D ) he wasn’t quite 3 years old at the time. Although cancer treatment and research has come a long way in the past decade-there is still so many venues that have not been investigated thoroughly-
I will definitely be sending you a donation and spreading the word about your conquest-- I think there is a forum on the Hubbers Hangout in which you can suggest hubbers and hubs to others :)
I will be expecting my drawing to be exceptional-although I prefer not to give any direction, would much rather you create whatever comes to mind and soul that day... :D
GOOD LUCK REACHING A MILLION
Thanks HC, I needed that enthusiasm! I will look for the article about your son, I am so very sorry, it makes me very sad to hear. When I had to tell my daughter that her Mom passed on, it was the most sorrowful thing I've ever had to do.
I will look for your envelope in the mail. I don't think I am going to do the Paypal thing as someone suggested above, I've got too many things going on, I don't know maybe it's easier than I'm thinking. I need octopus hands and a 34 hour day. Anyway, I will take your suggestion too and look at the forums for more input, I haven't done that yet. Someone else told me they sent one in, so hopefully, the two of you will be the first I will post! Thanks for the freedom of expression! Best! Ben
Good for you, Ben. So many of us think "I should do something," but then we never do! Good luck with your fund-raising efforts.
Thanks Red Elf, I've got the writing part done, soon comes the drawing part!
I posted my envelope today! :)
Thanks words coctail, I'll look for it! I was just nominated for a HubNugget newbie, so I hope that might get some more people to sign on! May the Great Spirit bless you today!
Just got to the Post Office to buy stamps today (the closest post office is 45min away-I live in the boon-docks)-my donation will be mailed tomorrow...
Today would have been my sons 9th birthday-so today he is on my mind, even more than usual. In his memory, I donate $, but I am also gathering a list of causes that I support and will be posting them as a hub as well as links on my other sites. May I include a link to this hub?
Aw H.C. you're melting my heart. Of course you can include a link to this Hub. I am going to get around to making a Facebook page about my Million Drawings For Cancer Research so I will hopefully be able to link that to your causes page as well, or also on here. Thanks for the encouragement, I have 5 coming in from Milwaukee, WI and I believe there's one coming in from Australia! I will post an update on here as soon as I finish the first drawing! Your son is in my prayers and I know he's still around you always.
