According to J.S. Shin, president and CEO, Samsung Southwest Asia that this phone is developed for the people living in the areas where electric supply is not stable.

The Phone is developed on consumer insights where a rural user can stay connected with family with a cell phone which tolerates rural conditions and environment and serves as an alternative to landlines, where electricity is a challenge.

Solar Guru, World’s First Solar Powered Phone

This phone will be launched in India in Mid-June under the company’s low cost series ‘guru’, at a price tag of Rs.2, 799. (Nearly 50 $) Country head, Samsung mobiles, Mr. Sunil Dutt said that the phone has been developed for India and will be manufactured in India from next month at the NOIDA factory of Samsung, till then it will be imported from Korea.

This hybrid phone will deliver around 5-10 minutes of talk time after recharging it for one hour in the open sun light, when the phone is turned off and the sunlight has a desired level of intensity required by the phone mechanism to charge itself. The phone’s battery will be fully charged after 40 hours of solar charging. Mr. Dutt said, “Solar charging can give you enough time to make few important calls when there is no electricity or you are not close to a plug point.”

Solar energy has been in use since the beginning of civilization on earth for millions of years. This powerful source of energy is used both by plants and animals alike for various activities like photosynthesis, heat etc. Solar energy has many advantages as
