What is a testimony? How about a Mormon one?

A testimony is by definition:

evidence given in court: evidence that a witness gives to a court of law. It may take the form of a written or oral statement detailing what the witness has seen or knows about a case.

christianity public avowal: a public profession of Christian faith or religious experience

Mormon testimony??? Let's take a look at some mormon testimonies...

How a testimony comes about...

Some say that Mormon's are a cult. Some say that Mormon's are brainwashed and that is where they get their testimony.

I say that for some of us among the Mormon faith, maybe that's true. I don't know how everyone gets their testimony, or evidence that our faith is true, but I am guessing there are a few out there that just belive because that is what has been taught to them for years. But that being said...I believe their are real testimonies from people who have not been "brainwashed, indoctrinated, and birthed into a cult."

First, let me ask, if you are of another faith, have you been taught by your parents in your current faith? Have you been "brainwashed" into your own religion? My point is that every religion and faith is going to have some people who take what they have been taught and never question it. So, if you are asking if the mormon's have some of those people the answer is a resounding yes. But so does your faith!

A testimony comes to people in different ways. One thing I wanted to start with this hub is a discussion on how testimonies have come to you whatever your faith.

Please feel free to share your testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ. If you feel comfortable, let us know how your testimony came about.

My Testimony...

I have long wondered about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Being a lifelong member, I have always wondered about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. My testimony came slowly, line upon line, as I imagine that several people's do.

I struggled to know if Joseph Smith really saw what he said he saw. I struggled with all of the claims from the anti-mormon literature that I read. I am grateful that I read all that I did, for I came out the other side with a stronger faith in my Savior and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You see, it was great for me to research Anti-Mormon Literature and see all of the half-truths that were presented in the pamphlets and know that there was a cunning design behind them. This strengthened my testimony.

Now, I know this can sound a little egotistic of me saying these things but I want to emphasize that while I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a true church, it doesn't mean that I think there isn't truth in other faiths as well.

That is the great thing! We don't have to be on separate sides, we have the greatest thing in common: The Savior Jesus Christ.

This is where my testimony lies. I know that He lives, He loves us, He cares about our happiness, and He died for me. Focusing on our common belief in Him we can forge a great world of kindness, love, unity.

Wow, I just went off on a tangent. How unlike me. Since this is more like a blog than a hubpage, I better end this. Please share your testimony.
