If you have been watching films from the golden era of the late 60's into the late 70's then one name and face that you could not possibly have forgotten even today is that of FARYAL yes the same cheesy and outrageously horny sex-bomb who gave many wet dreams with her sexy pouts and come hither seduction.
FARYAL was first seen in Bollywood(which was still known as Indian Cinema back then) in Biradari in 1966.But the dilm with which she actually made her presence felt was Dev Anand's Jewel Thief in 1967. Even the presence of sizzlers like Helen,Tanuja,Anju Mahendru and ofcourse Vyjantimala could not keep her out of focus. Infact after jewel Thief for almost over a decade Faryal was seen in virtually every film made by Dev Anand under his Navketan banner.
One thing about FARYAL that does not go unnoticed is that she was a natural charmer and thus all it took her was one film and she was permanently in that banner for good.Like Dev Anand same was the case with Feroz Khan who repeated her right from his maiden directorial venture Apradh right till she got married and quit films in the very late 70's to settle first in Germany and late in Israel with her airlines husband who was virtually eating out of her hands andd was besoted by her charms and sex-appeal.
Among the very popular films that Faryal was associated with in a career spanning almost a dozen years if not more include such gems as: Jewel Thief,Biradari,Maya, Koi Ghulam Nahin, Insaan Aur Shaitaan,Pushpanjali,Sacha Jhutha,Hungama, Buniyaad, Shararat,Apradh,Rampur Ka Lakshman, Hawas,Fareebi,Banarsi Babu,Dharma,Nafrat,Loafer, Jheel Key Us Paar,Manoranjan, Dafa 302, Rafoo Chakkar& Aafat to mention a few of the many films she was seen in.
One of the most controversial and global project that FARYAL lent her name to was an Indo-German Docu love story called Kamasutra and true to it's name it created waves back then in the very early 70's.The film starred Premnath along with Persis Khambatta,Nadira & ofcourse Faryal that had some very passionate kissing and some steamy sex scenes to justify it's title. Even though the film was banned in India yet almost every performer associated with it found it hard to live down the controversy. So much so that FARYAL after marriage could not live in Germany for long and was forced to settle in Israel.
FARYAL a Jew-Arab by birth never tired of telling anyone who could take their eyes off her face and lush body that she believed her name had several meanings and she was in part a lot like her name. For example FARYAL in Arabic meant a Princess and right from her start till she ended she remained a princess in films much as she tried she could not step into the shoes of Helen who ruled before her and Bindu who came after her.Yet the charming Princess had no dearth of admirers in the industry that saw her appear in a flow of films at regular intervals thus getting her a vast fan-following. apart from being her princess her name also meant a natural Giver and that was what FARYAL was doing.She had no dearth of Love and Compassion and that made her an instant hot favorite in films.
The Sex-Appeal she was blessed with and the screen aura she has with her personal temperament went a long way in making FARYAL as hot on-screen as she was off it. In fact not many people are aware that FARYAL was actually one of the first Indian actresses who actually started doing cabaret and item numbers from her hit films live at exclusive parties and private events at 5 star hotels not just in India but also in Dubai and other parts of UAE.
Infact it would not be wrong to state that FARYAL was the fore-runner to actresses consenting to do private shows, concerts and appearances later in the mid and early 80's.

Quite frankly I still cannot figure out what was soo bad that Faryal did that Helen or Padma Khanna or Nadira or Bindu or Kalpana Iyer did not do.

Nice to read up on Faryal, I pesonally never found her that attractive. I always felt that she looked really old!
I'm sure there were many old and lusty men who were young when she was in her peak whou would disagree with you & I lead that brigade. She never looked old at any point of her career but I do agree she looked tired and that was because of her extra-curricular activities when she mixed business with pleasure to make lotsa hay by rolling in it while the sun shined!!

Faryal- she was a daughter of a Isreali father who was a cook, and a Arabian mother who was a lady nurse.The Jew-Arabian combo made their life a hell and they came to India in 1964 when Faryal was only 18 years of age.
She participated in the Miss India contest and won the title.Thereafter a film producer gotr in touch with her and took a screen terst for her and gave her the role of a heroine in a movie named BAMBAI RAAT KI BAHON MEIN.The movie failed and she cornered all the attention.
However the kind of the presence that she had and she could make in that movie, everybody were of the opinion that it would be beter if she was given a negative role to play
What prompted the people, specially the directors and the producers were her eye and the movement of her lips which made one and sundry to believe that she was more suited to play the negative role.
In between she was given some dancing role in some of the movie in which she excelled.Thus from the heroine brand, she was shifted into the dancer club in the Hindi movie.
Her BIG knock came in the film JEWEL THIEF produced by Dev Anand, and that was the turning point of her career.In that movie there were as many as six herioines beside Vyajanthimala, and she played her role of a vamp, loving Ashok Kumar to perfection.This changed her role to a perfect vamp.
She played the role of a vamp/cabaret dancer/and a mujara dancer thereafter till she retired from the film
Her movement of the body and the grace and authenticity by which she performed her role was ABSOLUTELY peachfull and classless.
Her BIG role in terms of a negative role came in MAN KI AANKHEN which had Waheeda Rehman and Dharmendra in it.In that movie she plays the role of Bhabhiji of Dharmendra, and there is a cabaret song in it- AANKHEN SHARRAB KI, MAIKHAY MAIKHAY PAIMANA..That cabaret took her to a dizzy height.
Faryaal was a NATURAL choice of two hero, first Dev Anand, and then came the Late Feroze Khan.
Feroze Khan-whatever it could be, would not produce a film without Faryaal in it.The first REAL FEROZE-FARYAL combo came into the film APRAADH where Faryal played a very meaty and a juicy role of a house waiteress in Apradh.That was a real flicker of her career after JEWEL THIEF.
Later they were to do Dharmatma, SHARAFAT CHHOR DI MAINAY, KHOTEY SIKKAY...ET AL
Dev Anand took her for Banarasi Babu and a few more which also included SHAREEF BADMASH..et al.
Every herione who has to do these kind of a meaty stuff, at last longs for somebody on whose shoulder they could rest ther head and live for peace thereafter,Faryal too was not any exemption.
She fall into the trap of a Jaini fellow who was to ditch her.That broke her very badly, abd all the money that she had also has evaporated in a large measure.
She took to dancing in the expensive clubs and the high fiver hotels from 1976 to 1978 where in 1978 she came across a PILOT who was mad for her since she acted in the film JEWEL THIEF.
Very young to her in the age, he married her, and they first settled at Norway, from where they had to find the society boycotting them for some resaon.
They chose Germany to settle down, and the FILM KAAMSUTRA that she did with Premnath, with had some bewildering obscene shhots agaion took their pant out, and they shifted their base to Israel.
While doing all these- all the money that the PUILOT had amassed had gone with the wind.However his LOVE for FARYAL was such that he did not mind bearing all the heats, and when again where they found themselves pennyless, Faryal again took to cabaret dancing at the hotels in several places at Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Tanzania and in some places in Europe.
She lives her life at present in Tel Aviv , lonely with her family at Israel.
SHE WAS VERY WARM HEATED, VERY DOWN TO THE EARTH, VERY SIMPLE BUT A VERY PROFESSIONAL VAMP ALL ALONG HER CAREER
Some of her BOLD scene in the Indian films were with SHATRUGHAN SINHA in the FILM"BUNIYAAD", and Kashmakash which was produced by Feroze Khan.
She infact did not fear at all giving some of the shots which would require a heart of a lioness and a NO SHAME at all in some of the movie and was perfectly matched for those kind of scene.
Her shots with Vinod Khanna in a movie FARRAAR(NOT THE AMITABH-SHARMILA STARRER) and with Anil Dhawan in HAWAS would require a herat of an LIONNESS and a bent of mind of somebody not from this universe to do it.
In all- SHE WAS THE LADY VENUS OF THE INDIAN SILVER SCREEN
No , she never lloked OLD and WEARY- SHE ALWAYS WANTED TO BE BOLD AND WOULD PRESENT HERSELF LIKE THAT ON THE SCREEN.ACTUALLY THE FOREIGN LADIES LOOKED THAT WAY AND SHE ALWAYS PRESENTED HERSELF THAT WAY TO LOOK VOLUPTOUS ON THE SCREEN AND MAYBE BECAUSE OF IT THE PEOPLE TAKE HER OTHERWISE
She came to the screen after Helen and before Bindu, and had to fight against these two ladies always to make her presence felt, and made it own her own way-VOLUPTOUSLY
That was the LADY VENUS of INDIAN SCREEN.

If you have checked out the videos attached I have added the video from Sharafat Chod Di Maine & Man Ki Ankhen.Let me correct you that Faryal did not make her debut with Mumbai Raat Ki Bahon Mein as you mentioned infact that was the launch pad for Persis Khambatta..Faryal entered into films with a small role in Biradari as mentioned in my hub.
Dear LIPS The movie with Vonod Khanna was FAREB and not Faraar. The mistake is HGHLY regretted As far as her first film was concerned- I think that Iam right to say that BAMBAI RAAT KI BAHON MEIN was her first film, though I could be wrong too, because the first FILM of my life that I saw was KAALI TOPI LAAL RUMAAL. Anyway it was and it is a PLEASURE to have interacted with you over here because- people of our era simply have gone and very little have left who script about those GOLDEN era-bygone I JUST do not enjy any movies or any hero or heroines, or even any singers now-a-days With the death of Kishoreda, Rafi Saheb, Talat Ali, Hemontoda, Mukesh Bhai.....everything of our LIFE is gone for good
