Homemade Gravy From Scratch

It's really quite simple to make your own homemade gravy from scratch. The basic ingredients you'll need are water, all purpose flour and meat drippings or broth.

Gravy is usually made and served with roasted meats like beef, pork, chicken and turkey but you can make gravy with pan fried meat as well. Serve gravy poured over meat, mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, yorkshire puddings, buscuits or even bread.

Many casseroles and stews are held together with a savory gravy.

Gravy

Basic Gravy Recipe

2 cups stock, or roast drippings plus water

1 teaspoon Watkins soup and gravy base, flavor of your choice

1/2 cup cold water

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 tsp Watkins granulated black pepper

Place water in small mixing bowl. Slowly add flour stirring with a wisk to dissolve flour. Bring stock to a rapid boil over high heat, add soup base. Once boiling reduce heat to medium low. Add flour mixture slowly stirring as you go. Once all the flour mixture has been added, stir in pepper and salt if desired.

Watkins soup and gravy bases are available in Beef, Chicken, Onion, and Mushroom to compliment your roast and you'll find them here, plus gourmet yet simple turkey and country gravy mixes.
