Simple Cat Toys

I find it interesting that cats will play with almost anything, but it seems that their favorite toys are the simplest.  Ralph loves to play with straws I can’t finish coke without him trying to take the straw out of the cup.  It is crazy that all he wants is that plastic stick in my drink and he is not satisfied until he gets it.  He also loves the caps off the water bottles.  It’s like the cats know when I go get water and they come out of nowhere to see if they can have the cap.  It works out great because Duke loves to chew on the water bottles and get the cap off and then he is pretty much done with it.  So I guess you could say that he takes the cap off for Ralph.  Now if we could just get them to get along we would be doing great.   Anyway you don’t have to go buy the expensive toys all the time look around the house at simple things you might think they would love to play with.  My mom’s cats love to play with ice, she just puts a couple of cubes on the floor and away they go.  Cats will play with simple toys for hours.

Leave me some feedback on what your animals like to play with.

Our Carbon LOVES straws and bottle caps, too! When we first got him, the caps started disappearing from the counter (where my husband was saving them because of the free Coke coupons printed inside the cap). We had no idea what was happening to them. One day, we finally saw it: little Carbon hopped up on the counter, looked around, batted a cap to the floor and jumped after it, sending it sailing around on the wood floor.

Straws are never safe. If you set down your pop for a few minutes on the arm of the couch and walk away, he's up there in a flash and chewing on it. It always looks like he's trying to drink the pop!

Twist-ties are another favorite. Also q-tips and crinkled-up receipts.

No matter what (great) toys you spend money on, cats seem to only want "leftover" items. I have probably spent at least $100 over time on toys, and my cats (especially the older one) prefer everyday items. They love paper bags from grocery shopping, empty toilet paper rolls, balled up foil (not great for their teeth--don't recommend), drinking straws, wrappers, q-tips, bottle caps.
