A TRIBUTE TO THOSE WHO PERISHED IN VICTORIA'S BUSHFIRE
70A TRAGEDY
HUNDREDS OF HOMES COMPLETELY GONE
AUSTRALIA MOURNS FOR HER PEOPLE
Bush fires in southeastern Australia have killed more than 180 people and destroyed whole towns also leaving 5000 homeless. It is our nation's worst fire season ever and our worse national disaster.
Some reporters have reported up to 400 fires all burning at once.
We know some have been lit by arsonists, investigations are continuing. The speed at which the fires swept through this country town is beyond belief. Sparks flew, it became a death ring around the town, where it was impossible to escape.
The horrific scenes in the devastated town of Marysville said to be simply too gruesome to allow surviving residents to return home.
My country is in mourning, devastated and in despair my country is still coming to grips with what has happened here and is still happening.
I wrote this poem this morning in tribute to all the people touched by this tragedy.
A TRIBUTE TO MARYSVILLE
The fire raised its fierce head, across the bush it swept,
Devouring trees, and wildlife, til there was nothing left.
Through the town of Marysville, the monstrous flames did race,
Instead of easing down its stealth, this demon picked up pace.
Panic soon amounted, for woman, child and man,
Some raced into their vehicles, some slept, some screamed, some ran.
Some huddled close together, in hope they would be spared,
Screams and mass hysteria, filled the thick, black air.
The fire ravaged houses, with many souls still trapped inside,
Defenceless from this monster, so many people died.
Survivors looked in tears and daze, amidst shock and burning tears,
While others in a panic, searched for those so dear.
Where once a mighty township stood, was now blackened to the ground,
Burnt out cars in empty streets, where many souls were found.
Lets bow our heads, and close our eyes, and pray for all that died,
That angels will embrace them, in fields so 'vast and wide'.
To those left here with the tragedy, Those homeless, and in despair,
Let our country come together, and take them in our care.
Australia, let us unite in strength, as our tears flow so free,
Embrace Marysville survivors, now facing poverty.
We as a mighty nation, with determination, love and pride,
Will rebuild a mighty Marysville, when the last fire does subside.
Let's pray for all the suffering, that they can live once again in joy,
Where dreams can be reinvented, for every man, woman, girl and boy.
'GOD BLESS YOU MARYSVILLE..GOD BLESS AUSTRALIA'

Welcome to hubpages.
Great poem.
I used to live in Victoria, and used to go camping in the hills near Marysville. And have has the odd beer at Marysville Pub.
Hard to believe that it's all a wasteland now.
Hi Eric, thanks for stopping in. I know, it is just absolutely heart-breaking to see just blackness that goes on and on.It almost seems like a cruel horrific nightmare, just hoping to wake up and see it is not real. The loss of lives, is so heart breaking. I have also imagined how much of our wildlife has also been lost, we have so many animals on the borderline of extinction as well.I feel for all our furry friends as well.
Tragic loss indeed. I feel for all involved. Nice tribute dear. I just can't imagine
Thankyou C.C it is just so horrible I dont think any of us could fully imagine what has happened here.I think of them a lot and I have cried many a tear.
Beautiful words, Blondepoet.
An absolute tragedy - in Greece, we know how you feel.
I like the final bit - the indomitable Australian spirit will rebuild the dreams and hopes.
Our heart goes out to everybody affected by the fires.
Thanks a million Sufidreamer for your beautiful words. It has been incredible, there has been so much support from people all over the world. Thanks again :)
THE SILENCE OF TWO HUNDREDA Tribute to the victims of Black Saturday in VictoriaFebruary 2009Raymond J WarrenLone bird flying o’er the land, not knowing whence or where,Her mate has gone midst flame and wind, that she could not share.Their nesting tree where was it now? It surely has not crumbled, Only blackened sticks below and the silence of two hundred. It seems like many years ago, when voices laughed and spoke,Before the heat, the fierce wind and that cloudy choking smoke.Where Goanna ran up trees of green and Koalas never numberedBut all is quiet in the bush, with the silence of two hundred.Once they lived together all, in bush land so serene,When normal rain kept it there, growing evergreen. But then the savagery of drought, of bush too little lumberedAnd terror witnessed only by, the silence of two hundred The orange glow has gone now, the birds have gone to rest,A haze is on horizon and black silhouettes ride each crest. The air is still and cooling and the earth is ere encumbered,For nothing now will ever change, the silence of two hundred.Lone bird flying o’er the land not knowing whence or whereHer mate is gone midst flame and wind, that she did not share. No more there will she nest again, for from the air she tumbled,To sleep upon the blackened ash, with the silence of two hundred.
Hi Rayw1 what a powerful piece did you write it. Thanks so much for taking out all the time to post this moving piece.
ThANK YOU Blondepoet, I was a little affected by the bushfires as I have been through two of them [Ash Wednesday in South Australia and Longwood in Victoria] Not as bad as this one was but I was full of inspiration and sadness at that Time, the first Poem I put on the Net was We are Aussies and we Care. I will enter it here for your viewing.

For We Are Aussies And We Care Raymond J Warren Brisbane Qld February 9th 2009 Did you see that fireball a’rolling, down the valley fair And the timber smoke a’rising, from the beauty that was there? Did you hear the bird’s loud calling, in fear as they flew, And house dogs barking loudly, at the fright that they felt too? Did you hear the wind loud roaring, like a jet plane overhead, Did you see the roadway littered with the dying and the dead? Did you hear the crackling bushland and see the volunteers fight, Did you watch the orange horizon in the darkness of the night? Can you hear the men hard yelling, as they run this way and that, Can you hear the horses screaming as they gallop on the flat? Do you hear the child calling as she stands now safe alone, “Where’s my daddy have you seen him, I want my daddy home!” Do you know that sinking feeling of the loss and loneliness, As you stand before your once proud home and feel the emptiness. Do you know that heartache, as you sift through ashes bare? Does a tear come to your reddened eyes, for memories stolen there? Can you hear the deathly cry go up, to meet the burnished sky, Of fathers with their children gone and a mother's mournful sigh. And those who search the empty roads, for loved ones, who don't come,
The old and wise who blame themselves, for not telling them to run. But please don’t worry strongly, there is something you should know, We can’t bring back your loved ones, or the tokens for to show. But we can share your pain, for our shoulders we lay bare. So lay your head upon our breast, we are Aussies and we care.
I have written some three hundred poems on many many subjects but for the most part they are about true life experiences or histories. Thank you for your comment on my work.

raYw1 thankyou so much for sharing that one. That is just incredible. That one truly deserves to be out there somewhere.......that really is first class
That is so sad I did I miss this one? At least Australians are smart and want to leave in the U.S. it is batten down the hatches and for some god forsaken reason they believe they can out run the fire..:)
I missed this one also, well done Deb.
Aww thanks for all your visits AE you know I love ya. Honestly if it were me I would have got out of there as fast as possible, sadly thoughg there was people who never had time, its so sad isn't it x0x0xx0x0x0xx0
Thanks so much Jewels much appreciated x0x
hey blondepoet,
thanks a bunch for you amazing tribute. It really was a tragic loss for thousand and thousands. Also it is amazing how much support people ahve given, raising millions for releif.
Thanks a million odette for your wonder comments. It was just devestating I agree, it is going to take some time for these families left to live a normal life again without doubt. ;)
I loved the heartfelt poetry blondepoet. Australia is a harsh place at times, and like so many others who love this country I wish all those affected by the bushfires the very best in rebuilding their futures.
Hi Earnest, thanks a million. God it is just so hard to imagine how horrific it really was. Thanks heaps for all your support (hugs)x0x
bp sorry I haven't caught up with this before today.
I love your poem , it is very touching . I'm sorry to hear about the friends your lost. There are not many people here that have not been touched in one way or another.
Hi agvulpes it was so sweet of you to come. Aww thankyou for the beautiful comment you left. I can't believe the latest, that they suspect a fire-fighter for one of the people responsible for the fires. my God if that is the case that really sucks, and he is 65 years old too.x0x
This tragedy has touched us all. Im at the opposite end of the country, yet feel so very close. Our little town, like so many others rallied together to raise some funds. We averaged 24dollars for every man, woman and child donated in cash to the appeal. We also sent three 40' containers of goods. This country really kicks in in time of need, a challenge to the rest of the world.
Sadly, as the royal commission kicks into top gear, the news is filled with Primadonna, disrespectful, primaly animalistic football players, who like to think they can get away with whatever they like....
Let the memory of those perished and closely affected, live on....
Thankyou so much Sailaway for dropping by and leaving your heart-felt comments. It has been so great how us Aussies have given so freely, all of us touched so deeply by this tragedy, good on your town for your binding together to do what you can for these people. I agree totally bout the rubbish they been putting on television, I hardly watch the news, anymore I find it's all gone crazy.
You have captured the moment, the panic, and the fear and painted the picture with your well chosen words. In 1001 on December the 19th my home burned to the ground. This work was so real and full of the emotions that I could never find the words for. I am definitely a fan.
Oh Paris I am so sad to hear what happened to your home. My God that is just the worst tragedy to happen. I hope you guys are ok and have rebuilt your lives. I am so so sorry. (hugs)
The home was rebuilt, rebuilding my life is a day to day challenge. But as you and I know, tragic though it was, there are much worse things in life to be endured. I so enjoy your work so please keep writing.
Oh Paris I am so glad you are slowly picking up the pieces of your life. There are so many horrendous things that happen to people, yet it is amazing how strong the human spirit can be. Have a wonderful day. (hugs)

I feel sorry for your losses in Australia right now. We had severe wild fires here in Southern California in 2003 and 2007, so I can relate to much of what you are going through.
