The Celtic Spread

This is the Celtic Cross Spread, also so known as the Gypsy Spread. This is my favorite spread for Tarot. It is kind of a round robin look at life. I place and read the cards a little different than Reisis Games, which I am using now for demonstration.

This is how they recommend laying the cards. ( picture 1) 1-10, with the Ouererent or Significator, which in layman's terms, simply means YOU, the reader of the cards. I do intent on you interrupting your own cards. It doesn't take a rock scientists! Just some time, patience, and a little dedication will get you through.

They recommend picking and choosing your own card, the Querent or Signifacator. Well, I have so many personalities, I never know which one I'm going to wake up to, so I draw a card for me. (picture 2 ) This morning I drew the 8 of Cups, which is a picture of a man walking away from contentment. Of course, perfect for me. I wasn't satisfied being retired, I had to get in to this hubbing.

Now we can pick up with the Resis Game instructions. (picture 3) Laying the card they wanted us to chose, that we dealt, under the #1 cover card.

Let's begin the tarot reading. # 1-10 Positions in our lives.

1. present forces - The High Priestess - a good strong female influence

2. obstacle - The Ace of Cups - raising above materialism

3. root - Two of Cups - good strong relationship

4. departing influences - The Magician - strong male influence

5. goals - Page of Swords - waring young man

6. immediate future - Ten of Swords - burdens to bear

7. negative feelings - The Emperor- strong will

8. surroundings - Ten of Cups - content family

9. hopes - Three of Cups - fulfillment

10. future - Ace of Swords - great force

Also there are 5 cups, 3 swords and 5 of the major cards in this reading. No pentacles or wands! The cups represent a mellow personality or influence. The sword a more energetic spirit. Major arcana represents a strong force. The pentacles involves money issues and the wands are of an earthly nature.

So, there we did a reading and no one got burnt at the stake and lighting didn't strike. Now that I'm done maybe the ten of swords will be lifted. If you enjoyed the simplisity of this ancient art try My Divinity Games for more entertainment.
