A Tribute to the Men in my Life
62A Tribute to . . .
The first man I want to mention, not using real names, is a guy I dated in high school. We went out our junior year. It's interesting how we met, I remember clearly this guy in a wheel chair, bumping into me in the hall. I remember having this funny feeling, like I should say something to him. I smiled and teased him about bumping into me. From then on it just seemed natural, we started dating, which lasted the whole year. Not a big deal for me, I thought about how he wasn't in the popular crowd, and kind of reflected on what my friends might think. However, If you know me I usually do what I want. Of course, none of my friends ever said anything. And like I say, I had this feeling like I should get to know this person.
I'll start the tribute now and say, out of ALL the guys I've dated, I had the most fun with this person. I do mean out of all the guys, he was and still is the most fun person I have ever dated. In high school, we swam at his country club. We took two hour drives to eat at a famous Italian Restaurant. One time we got stranded because the lights on his dad's truck would only work on high. We ended up staying with my sister's soon to be in-laws until morning. And he knows the story about her inlaws rules. I still smile.
I have pics of the dances we went to, memories of meeting his family, holiday traditions, friends, the food fight at lunch, I wouldnt participate in. It was a good year. A nice year. I broke off the relationship, because I felt it wasn't going anywhere. I don't know why, just the feeling I had at the time. I remember, I didn't know why he started dating the next girl. However, I didn't really know her.
Sometime in senior year, someone told me, that I really broke his heart. I had no idea, He never told me. I suppose I wasn't very perceptive. One of my flaws. That's why I'm writing a tribute to the guys, I dated and married. Because of my flaw of not showing appreciation enough. Although it may have been there, it was kind of covered up.
I was fortunate to spend a week with this person, three years ago. Actually, he came to town with his son for four days and then one of my daughters and I went to see them for a week. Again, I had the most fun I have ever had, with ANY guy that I have ever dated or married. The guy just knows how to have fun and live life to the fullest. Here's to you, for giving me some of the best memories I have ever, ever had. I love that you are so full of life. You have many other good qualities, I could go on and on; however, I want you to know how special our time together was and why it was so special.
Here's to you, all my love, always!
