A Voice of Reason in the Healthcare Debate
60A Voice of Reason...
Changes in Healthcare
Many people are worried and concerned about the changes coming to our healthcare system. The town hall meetings continue with fierce debate on all sides. At last there is a voice of reason and I am happy to thank Representative Tom Price for his blunt words on the subject.
The Baby Boomers are a huge population in the American economy. In 2011 the first of the 78 million baby boomers will be turning 65 and with it will be eligible for Medicare. This population will continue to grow for the next 20 years due to the population growth in the years following World War II. By 2030, this population will be 71.5 million people over the age of 65. This number is a massive 20 percent of the population.
In view of this information is it unbelievable that the Obama Administration could possibly believe that Americans would favor cuts to eliminate many Medicare provisions. It is also foolish to believe that these senior citizens who have worked all their lives and contributed in good times and bad times to this economy would be willing to accept the current attempt to marginalize their lives and make them feel as if it is time to get out of the way for a new generation.
These people are not stupid and they are seeking information about the proposed program. So far they do not like what they see. If the Democratic Majority insist on going it alone against the expressed wish of these older Americans they will pay for it in the coming elections.

Very informative Hub... you did your homework on this one...
Smireless, this is a great hub. The information is well presented.
Thank you all for your comments. This is a topic that I feel strongly about.
Great article with facts. Well written.
Many people still feel the healthcare proposal is okay. What they don't realize is that it includes abortion and wants to eliminate the elderly as just a few of their goodies.
Thanks.
I believe in regulating the healthcare system. I just think this proposal targets the wrong area. Insurance companies should be regulated so that they cannot refuse to pay for preexisting conditions. I also believe that low income people should have options for healthcare, but the payment schedule to the doctors is so low that many doctors will not accept MediCaid. This is a fact. My brother who had never in his life sought government help had an injury and needed surgery. He had real difficulty finding a doctor to care for him. It was a nightmare. Quality of care was low and the treatment of patients waiting in the office was terrible. Creating such a program for everyone would be the worst mistake in the world.
Smireles,
Very good hub. I have seen the NHS in the UK and its not a pretty sight. I first traveled there on business in 1997 and met a man who was in the 18th month on the waiting list for quadruple bypass surgury. I was there for 3 months and he finally got his surgery in the middle of his 19th month on the waiting list. He survived and was doing OK the last time I heard.
I never hear any mention of tort reform from the Democrats.
Excellent Hub!!! May God be with us! Blessings!!!
The one thing that could be done that would positively effect all points is for the federal government to let people shop anywhere for health insurance. At this point they can't and that keeps the prices so high. That one thing would cause competition and go a long way. The other thing is preconditions but I think the market would eventually take care of even that if only this one thing would be done. It would be easy and inexpensive to do too!
I believe that we could tweak the current system instead of trying to change the whole thing. Thanks for your input. Great suggestions!
