A Wedding -- A Comedy Of Errors

Fun Planning The Big Day
We were two families uniting as one. I made the wedding plans on the cheap and even made my own wedding gown. I had a friend make the bouquet and I even made all the bridesmaids dresses. A daunting task. We got the grooms nephew to sing at our wedding against the advice of the Priest. He changed his attitude after hearing our nephew sing.
I met a friend through going through a church program with her and she made the wedding cake for Free in exchange for making her dress. We went to the local eatery and mde plans to get a room and have our reception there.
Everything was going great and things were all arranged and it was really fun to arrange all the things for a wedding especially if it is your own.
I even chose some of the music that our guests would listen to at the reception.
The Night Before
So the groom is taken to some place to have his last day of freedom by his groomsmen.
I decide to have a slumber party here at my house with the fgirls. Two are my daughters from a previous marriage and then my friend who is my bridesmaid.
We have a grand time talking and having some snacks and just doing what girls do best--talking up a torm. My daughters do a facial on me and get me all relaxed for the big day in the morning.
We went over the plans of the day and the schedule that we had to keep and what we had to bring to whom and where. During the course of the planning I found out that I could not get dressed in the church but had to find someplace else to get dressed. So I got permission to go to the place we had the reception and dress there and drive 15 minutes to the church.
So the next day we get ready and drive to the reception area to get ready.
The Fun Begins!
We get everything to the reception area and I start changing clothes.
Crap! My daughter forgets the music and has to drive all the way back to the house to get them and bring them back here!
**Hint: Make sure you have a list of everything that you need if you are doing it all yourself to save money!
So she goes and gets them. We are very shorton time now and so as soon as she pulls into the parking lot we gather my veil, train and belongings for the honeymoon.
I was shocked tht we didn't get pulled off for speeding. I think we were going 25 miles over the speed limit and that was 65 mph! It was the fasted that I have ever driven!! Kind of scary when you don't have room around the pedals of the car to move fast if one has to stop quickly.
**Hint: Get someone else to drive you to the church!
We do arrive safely and we are waiting for the signal to go upstairs. We wait and wait and wait and we get kind of anxious as to why it is taking so long.
The Grooms Tale
Finally someone comes down to tellus wht is going on.
Come to find out there was another person with the same name as my husbad-to-be that ordered Tux for the same day. The totally wierd thing about this ws--he also was getting married and he also lived in the same town tht I live in. We never saw or talked to this guy!
Well to get on with the story.... He was quite a bit shorter and a bigger size then my husband-to-be. So someone was sent out to get some suspenders to hold up the groom pants! Well since this guy had never been to this area he got lost. HAHAHA!
So we wait until he returns with the goods!
We are called and finally go up to the Narthax and are positioned into the places we are to be. The music starts playing and the girls go down in front of me.
Down the Aisle And The Nuptials
My father, a very kind and funny man and I love him dearly, put my arm into his to begin my walk to my new life with this man that I loved enough to change. Well we began the steps and I could swear we were running down the aisle and not walking! He said in a joking manner that this one better be the right one and that this is the last time he will walk me down the aisle again. He's funny! I nearly tripped!
We all got lined up and the ceremony began and it was fine up until I had to give my bouquet to the Bridesmaid.
My daughters asked if my husband-to-be was crying. I had to look again and yes he was crying. Well when anyone cries, I get the urge to do so myself. Only my daughters are now holding back their laughter and giving great big smiles to the audience. I didn't cry but I wasn't paying much attention to my part of the vows and had to have the Priest repeat them a few times before getting it right.
When it came time to put the rings on, my husband put mine on the right finger. I, on the other hand, literally put his ring on the wrong finger on the wrong hand! I was so flustered and didn't find out until we got out of the church before taking pictures! I couldn't believe I did something like that! We had a good laugh, but I wondered if we were married since the ring wasn't on the right finger. I never said anything to the Priest! It was just another mishap in the Comedy Of Errors on our Wedding.
**Hint: Laugh and have fun and don't sweat the small stuff! Guys don't cry in front of your wife-to-be.
I chalk it all up to Murphy's Law--Whatever can go wrong, will go worng. Roll with it though. It is just one day in the rest of your lives.
The Reception
Now everyone has gone to the reception ahead of us and we are getting our pictures taken. When we arrive at the reception we are greeted by everyone who has shown up and one of my dear friends who I never saw there but signed my guestbook. He was supposed to be on deployment overseas.
Anyway we wait and wait and wait for the person who is to come and give us instruction on the cake and stuff. Finally my Mom goes to get her so we can get on with the party!
For some reason my one piece undergarment kept slipping and I had to go into the Ladies room several times to fix it. I couldn't wait to take that thing off!
**Hint Wear something comfortable. If it is something new to you wear it several days at a time prior to wearing it on your wedding day!
Everyone got to know and greet each other and we danced and then.....then the food ran out. We had gotten light food because ti was in between lunch and dinner. We thought we had ordered enough for everyone.
**Hint: Order at least one level up when ordering yur food for your reception. Better to have too much food then not enough. You can always give the left overs to your bridal party.
Time is a funny thing and it can give you more or take away when it is the time to set your clocks back during the Fall. Well another Comedy of Error was about to unfold. The restaurant didn't set the clocks back and everyone left an hour earlier then what was supposed to be!
**Hint: Make sure the time's are right and that someone will take care of that a day prior to the reception.
Finally it was time for us to leave and be on our honeymoon.
Still Married
That was 11 years ago. Looking back it was a fiasco and very funny! I am sure God or whomever had a good laugh at the time. We were flexible enough to roll with the punches and we are still married to this day. It taught us things are not always what they seem and compromise is at the heart of all marriages. If you can't compromise, understand one another or laugh a little at yourself then you won't make it, not only through a marriage but through life.
Be Happy and Enjoy life!

Funny story! Made me think of our wedding that I also arranged 38+ years ago. Similar to yours in that practically everything that could go wrong......did! We now laugh about it.
