A Wrinkle In Time
I. A Wrinkle In Time 1962
II. Madeleine L’Engle November 29, 1918 – September 6, 2007
III. Meg Murry – Meg is the oldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Murry, and she has three siblings. She is around thirteen years old with brown hair, braces, and glasses. She doesn’t like the way she looks. In the beginning of the book she had been doing badly in school and had been getting in trouble. She is good at math, loves her family, and gets along especially well with her younger brother Charles Wallace.
IV. IT – IT is a brain that rules Camazotz. It hypnotizes people and takes control over them. It speaks through the man with red eyes and Charles Wallace. It is part of the evil Black Thing. It makes everyone on Camazotz do exactly what it wants in an orderly sequence.
V. Charles Wallace foolishly lets IT hypnotize him because he wants to find out more about it. IT takes control of Charles Wallace and Meg tries to free Charles Wallace from IT’s control.
Characters
VI. Mrs. Whatsit – She is a white, winged horse, but on earth is an old lady with lots of clothes. She used to be a star and between the Mrs. W’s she is the best at communicating with the children.
Mrs. Who – On earth she is a plump lady with big glasses. She speaks through quoting because it is easier for her to say what others have already said than to come up with her own words.
Mrs. Which – On earth she is a witch with black clothing and a pointed hat. Usually she is a shadow or a bit of light. She is the leader of the Mrs. W’s and is best at tessering (traveling through space).
Mr. Murry – Mr. Murry is father of the Murry children. He is a scientist and mainly studies space. He has been missing for a while, and stopped sending letters back to his family.
Mrs. Murry – She is the mother of the Murry children. She is also a scientist and is beautiful. She writes letters to her missing husband every night.
Calvin – He is a tall 14 year old boy with red hair. He is on the basketball team at Meg’s school and is quite popular. His parents don’t show him or his siblings any love and he really appreciates the love that the Murry’s show him.
Charles Wallace Murry – He is the youngest Murry child. He is 5 years old and rarely talks to anyone but his family. He is extremely smart for his age, and was the first to meet the Mrs. W’s.

Summary
VII. The story starts out in the middle of a hurricane in October at the Murry’s house. The children later travel through space and visit many planets. They spend most of their time on a dark planet called Camazotz.
VIII. Author/3rd person
IX. The book starts off at the Murry’s house in the middle of a storm, and Meg, Charles Wallace, and Mrs. Murry have all gotten up to get a snack. Then, a strange, old woman named Mrs. Whatsit stops by because she had gotten blown off course on her way home. Charles Wallace had met Mrs. Whatsit earlier when he was in the woods behind the Murry’s house. The next day Meg and Charles Wallace went to see Mrs. Whatsit and her two friends in the woods. On their way there, Meg and Charles Wallace met Calvin in the woods. Calvin said he had a compulsion to come to the woods, so they all went to Mrs. Whatsit’s house together. At the house, Meg and Calvin meet Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who for the first time. Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who keep saying that it is almost time, but never say what for. Later that night, Mrs. Whatsit, Mrs. Who, and Mrs. Which came and took Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin. They all travel through space and the Mrs. W’s show Meg, Charles Wallace, and Calvin that a dark cloud called The Black Thing is attacking the galaxy and is evil. The children are also told that their father is helping to fight The Black Thing, but he accidentally went to Camazotz and is captured there. The Mrs. W’s bring the children to Camazotz to save their father, but the Mrs. W’s have to leave the children. While on Camazotz, IT takes control of Charles Wallace, but Meg is able to free Mr. Murry. Then IT tries to take control of Meg, Calvin, and Mr. Murry, but Mr. Murry is able to get himself, Calvin, and Meg away from IT by traveling through space. He accidentally sends them to a planet where three aliens find them. When traveling through space, Meg became frozen, but the aliens are able to nurse her back to health. Meg realizes that only she can save Charles Wallace from IT. Meg goes back to Camazotz with Mrs. Which, but Mrs. Which must let Meg try to save Charles Wallace on her own. Meg struggles with freeing Charles Wallace, but then she figures out that she has love and IT does not. Meg is able to get Charles Wallace free by loving him and showing her love for him. Then Charles Wallace is free of IT’s control and the Murry’s find themselves back at home with Calvin.

My Thoughts
X. The Black Thing represents evil. The book shows how there is some of the dark cloud over the earth, and various humans have fought against it. The first human named is Jesus along with several other people including Buddha, Ghandi, Bach, and Einstein. Scripture is also quoted in the book twice to comfort and encourage Meg.
XI. The author’s tone toward Meg seemed to be supportive. The author treated Meg like a child that felt she could not do what she needed to, but with a little motivation and encouragement she found the drive within her to accomplish the task.
XII. I found A Wrinkle In Time interesting and unique. It is different and gives the reader a lot of ways to use his imagination. I think the book had a good message and was pretty entertaining.
