A good old fashioned rant at SEO companies.

Has anyone out there had a bad experience with an SEO company? I would put my house on it that there are loads of people out there that have been conned by an “Internet Marketing Company” that promise you first page domination of Google, but actually deliver nothing but a fat bill every month.

Every day, my business takes cold calls from sales people trying to get you to sign up for their special “SEO Services”. The call always starts with the same one liner “could I speak to the person that is in charge of the internet marketing please?” I used to put the phone down on them but now I decide to waste as much of their time as possible, either that or I put them on hold and transfer them to another SEO company (great fun when you put them on loud speaker in the office!!)

Every company promises that they can get you onto page one of Google, “we can change your business overnight!” They say. To date I have used 2 SEO companies and I have experienced IDENTICAL levels of service that goes along the following lines;

I sign up for a trial.

The first month goes great.

I sign up for a contract that is 12 months long.

A week later the website starts to disappear.

I call up asking why.

I am told this is a temporary glitch that will be overcome.

12 months later I have paid thousands with f**k all to show for it.

Sound familiar anyone? Or am I just the mug that got suckered into signing up with these guys? I looked into both companies (that shall remain unnamed, for now) and they both seemed to be big players in the SEO world, with their own website ranking quite well which is always a good sign, so no one can accuse me of using a back street, fly by night single person sitting in their bedroom doing a bit here and there.

So what is the answer? Well for me personally I am training to be an SEO expert myself, I am so sick of being mugged off that I am going to become my very own SEO guru, and when I am done I am going to launch my own business that DOSNT mug people off. I reckon there must be a need for good SEO companies out there so I think the training will be a good investment.

I also believe that there should be a code of conduct that these SEO specialists follow (I use the term specialists very loosely) that insists that contracts have to be performance rated, i.e. if my website is sitting at the top of Google them I pay for that privilege, if it’s on page 2 then I don’t have to pay so much. I think most people would be happy to pay a premium for a top position in Google because if the keyword has been researched correctly then the return on investment would more then cover the cost for the optimisation service.

I would love to hear from other people that may have experienced the same problems I have, I am convinced that I cannot be the only one out there that has been a victim of an SEO cash cow company.

Resources.

IT Consultant London based guy who is teaching some real eye opening things about SEO. The more I learn, the more I realise just how much I have been getting fobbed off over the last 2 years. The website is worth a look alone for the page on bad SEO experiences which is how I found then in the first place.

Look out SEO cash cows, I am comin to get ya all!!
