He was drinking a Scotch wondering if he was having a Heart Attack

Married and asleep living in Gwinnett County GA. My father lives in Atlanta near Perimeter Mall.Well that is for anyone that knows Atlanta. My wife and I live at least 38 miles from my father house. Mostly highway roads. We live three miles from an interstate and he is about the same distance.

My father is 78 years old and lives in the same house he has for 35 years. A widower. Not by choice.

Anyway my wife and I are asleep and today is say a Tuesday. Time oh about 2 AM. The phone rings and my wife grabs the phone and as I wake up she says it's your father.

I sit up and take the phone and say "so, whats up" Pops?

He says what are you doing?

Well nothing actually we were asleep how about you? What are you doing?

Well I woke up an hour ago and thought maybe I was having a heart Attack. Okay so what are you doing now? pops?

Well I'm drinking a scotch. Johnny Walker Black. Come on over and we can have a drink together and figure out what i should do. Bacardi and Coke.

Cool that fix yea huh?

Well I was wondering if you'd come by for a little while.

Sure when?

Can you come now?

Yea I be there as fast as I can.

Click.

I told my wife my pops is having a heart attack and he is drinking a scotch trying to figure out what to do.

I have to go.

My wife said call 911 yea I would but he told me not to!

I jumped up and put on a pair of jeans and ran down stairs.

I couldn't find my keys, my cash and or my wallet. Great!

I searched and searched for five minutes or so and ran back up stairs and flipped on the light and began searching for my stuff.

My wife said I don't have to go to work tomorrow take my car.

Cool...I'm outta here.

I run back down stairs and grab my cell phone and I'm zooming towards the highway.

No Cops so far we're looking good.

Soon I am zooming down the interstate doing about 80 MPH in this little old Toyota.

I see the police here and there going in the other direction and then I figure I have some problems. I didn't find my wallet and I don't have any ID. I don't have any cash on me.

I decide to call 911 and tell them what I'm doing and if they see me don't try to pull me over cause my pops is having a heart attack but this is where I'm going and you can meet me there.

The next few minutes I fumble with the cell phone and rehearse what I am going to say.

I dial them up and tell the operator that I am speeding big time and I've just passed mile marker on the interstate doing about 80 MPH in my wife's little old Toyota. Please tell the police not to pull me over OK?

I have another problem I was in such a hurry I couldn't find my wallet. I have no ID and No license nothing. So for sure tell them the address and the police can meet me there I'm not going to stop for them.OK?

The calm man puts me on hold for a moment then tells me to slow down and not risk me killing myself and maybe others to get to my pops! He said in Atlanta at any given time about a hundred people are doing exactly what I am doing for all types of reasons.

The primary reason is going to the aid of love ones.

He said Just let me have the address of where you father is and we'll go there and then you drive slower. Yea

Yea great idea but my pops asked me not to do that.

He will get pissed at me.

Well if you continue to speed odds are it won't matter because you will never make it there.

So have you slowed down.

Yes sir. I am doing about 75 MPH.

Slow down he told me and he asked me for his address one more time.

I gave to him and then I slowed down.

About twenty minutes later I was going down a well known street in Atlanta and passed two county police cars sitting on the side of the road. I turned right and then another right and told them my father was having a heart attack and then I pulled out back into the street and ran the red light and went on my way.

In record time I arrived at my pops house. The emergency vehicles were everywhere. Fire Department was in the street, police cars and paramedics in the driveway. I walked into my pops house and he was hooked up to all these wires and things.

I told my pops I was sorry that I had called 911 and he told me that it was okay.

The paramedic told me that had they not gotten there when they did he would have been dead.

My father was in the mist of suffering a major heart attack.

He had a triple by pass surgery a week later. A success at Piedmont Hospital.

He survived the surgery and lived fairly healthy for another 10 years.

Thank you
