Over the Fourth of July we took a family vacation to see family and friends in Charlotte, NC and Murphy, NC. I have a Bright House Cable connection here at home, but while I was there my family in Charlotte has DSL, and our friends in Murphy had Satellite Dish (which they also have here in FL).

To my parents, DSL is hands down, the greatest new thing in, it is "warp speed" compared to their previous dial up. I also have a family website that is basically a scrapbook for my daughter and they use it to watch her videos etc. After having cable for the past 3 years all I can say is, "BLOW MY BRAINS OUT!" I am not sure how people consider this worth the extra cost from dial up. It is still BRUTALLY slow for someone used to a cable connection.

The dish satellite system which our friends use, they joke and call it the "poor man's cable," keep in mind they are both doctors! Back to it's speed though, again BRUTAL! Not as bad as the DSL, but not much better either. I thought maybe it was that we were in the mountains, but alas, no. I tried their home computer the last time we were over there and it moves at the same speed.

Yet, keep in mind for both of these people the DSL and Satellite do what they need it to do. They are both clearly happy with it as they keep it! Personally I am on the computer too much for that to be an option for me, I'll keep my Bright House!
