So you are a diabetic or at least afraid of becoming one and so you are on a low or no sugar diet. Well the fates are on your side because there is a lot out there for you, but if you have not done this before or felt like you have not done it right before you can get some guidance here. Let’s start with desert. You can often get sugar free deserts or you can take a look at Splenda (or other sugar subsitute if you already have a favorite) , if you want to make your own desserts. (By the way, I always encourage making your own desserts if you have a health issue of any kind. The more you make from scratch, the more you know what is going into your foods, and b proxy into your body. This is always important) If you have another artificial sweetener than you can use that instead. When using an artificial sweetener be sure to use the right amount they cannot all be used as a one to one substitute with sugar. Splenda, for an easy example is used at about half as much as sugar. What about in your normal foods? Well you can avoid things like fruits in high amounts as well as candles or soda with sugar in them. If you have been sugar free for a while you may be used to this. Be sure not to give into treats like hot cocoa or other holiday treats that you may not give in to and other times of the year. It is all a matter of self control (hey you, get your hands out of my cookie jar while I am taking about self control that’s just too ironic) most meats and vegetables can be good for you in moderation. This is my main disclaimer. You should be careful what you eat if you have any heat conditions you should be working with your doctor and/or a licensed dietitian in order to get the most benefit from your dietary changes, no point in changing without getting maximum gains. They will know what is good for you given your medical history. No blog posting, no matter how well researched or written, can ever be a substitution (of any kind) for their advice and guidance. Don’t play with your health! Be safe with your health. You only get one life.
