A to Z Bestival Review

Rob Da Bank's is a Radio 1 DJ. He is popularly known to approach spinning records in a slapdash way at best. This usually leaves the listener in a "take you on a journey" vibe to the trance jockeys which would fill his record box with more complicated tunes only with having an eclectic good time in mind so why someone would put together a mix CD of such an ethic? It's not like you don't already own an enthusiastic pal with a good record collection.
But really, leaving those coarse thoughts aside, Rob Da Bank's approach is a pretty unique one. The tracks in his new compilation of A to Z of Bestival acts on playing the 2008 installment of his own annual festival on the Isle of Wight which makes you easily realize that what he did was mainly to do cut and paste. There is another issue about sequencing things alphabetically. This really throws a problem with mixing Aphex Twin with Black Kids and with the absence of a "Q" in the makes it an awkward track list fudging.
On to dance music, Rob Da Bank has made sure of including those tried and tested hits in the dance music charts like Underworld's Cowgirl and 808 State's Pacific. When it comes to indie music, he slips towards new school.
All in all, this compilation is a hit and miss situation. He made a great concept of putting together different tracks but he failed to organize them properly. There is no harmony in this album just a couple of songs bunched up together to form an A to Z compilation.
