A tour of San Diego . Hurry up lets go !!!
71We will start with the San Diego Skyline
I am your humble tour guide today !
As I am sure most of you are familiar with by now , I have not always been a native San Diegan . I lived just outside of Los Angeles for the better part of my existence and moved to San Diego In 1997 . It Is now home for me and I love the San Diego lifestyle . The weather Is consistently good . Our baseball team Is consistently bad . However they do have a really nice ballpark downtown . And a couple of pretty killer dance clubs just walking distance from there.
Now this Is a city that has so much to offer In the way of your entertainment dollar , and like most of us across these United States we here In my humble little town are not adverse to the economic troubles that have beset all of us nationwide . And In our local paper on Sunday they announced more or less that we are In financial Armegeddon with a pension fund for city workers that Is deep In the hole . To the tune of 174 million or as our new adminstration would call It a down payment on the stimulus . So In the midst of this fiscal crisis I asked myself what I could contribute to the betterment of my beloved adopted home .
So I decided since I cannot count on our civic leaders for any solutions I would have to take matters Into my own hands . So what I Intend to present to you Is a tour of my town and perhaps persuade you to visit and take In some of the sights . So I am gonna be your tour guide and Ambassador for San Diego because as usual I have to do everything by myself ! Now mind you I had a rough day at work ! So please forgive me If I am a little short and curt but I am one tired brother ! Anyway hurry up and lets get this thing rollin !
The San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo came to being In 1915, and Is now one of the most famous zoos In the world . It Is located In the Balboa Park section of town , between Hillcrest the uptown part of our city and downtown . Great place to take the family ! And features Monkey trail exhibits , and a Panda station that Is second to none ! They just had a newborn Panda a few weeks back and are having a contest for naming that cute little critter ! This world class zoo also boast a couple of other top notch exhibits such as the Polar Bear Plunge , the Ituri Forest , and also a neat little bird exhibit along with many varieties of non native trees from the animals native habitat .
The San Diego Zoo boasts more than 4000 animals and 950 species .And all of this Is presented to you over 107 acres of land . A premiere destination If ever there was one ! But we gotta lot of ground to cover so lets get movin !!!
On to Seaworld !
Seaworld San Diego
Seaworld opened up In 1964 . A group of 4 science graduates brought this to fruition . Now Seaworld takes up 189 acres over In the Mission Bay area of town . Mission Bay Is generally a place I like to ride my bicycle at on my way to the Boardwalk at the beach . Seaworld has a fantastic Orca exhibit and do quite a few shows during the day . Also they have a great penguin exhibit , and a show with Dolphins as well as a petting zoo of sorts for the kids to pet and feed the dolphins Plus 2 water rides that are quite refreshing during the Summer months . And also during the summer months a nightly fireworks show Is presented at approximately 9 PM and I know because I get to see It every night from my front porch . And I have not once complained or called the cops about It ! Any way If you want a fantastic and memorable experience for the children , you cannot go wrong with Seaworld ! Its a great F*&^Nn place for the kids OK ?!! Any way we gotta get movin , lets go on to the next stop !
Time to go to the beach !
The San Diego Jewel , our beaches !
San Diego has some great beaches . And I have spent alot of time at the boardwalk as It Is one of my favorite places to hang out . The picture there Is the Crystal pier and I used to live a stones throw away from It . But along with Pacific Beach , we also have La Jolla Shores , Coronado and Imperial beach as well as Torrey Pines State beach . All of our beaches are first class and by the Crystal Pier there Is a little place called KONOS that serves a fantastic and Inexpensive breakfast . If there Is one singular aspect of San Diego It Is definitely our beaches !
Also just south of Pacific Beach Is Mission Beach and Belmont Park which has a good old school rollercoaseter and I am a junkie for thrill rides ! And La Jolla cove Is northing short of breathtaking ! Anyway I do not want to start cooing all over the place so lets move on !
A taste of the rural west ! Old Town
Old Town , another little treasure !
Old town San Diego Is another great place to take In while you are In town . It has a lot of neat little art shops and also a couple of really neat little historical sights you can take In to see what life was like In the Old West ! And If you are a fan of Mexican Food like I am there Is an Abundance of great places to eat like Cafe Coyote and Old Town Mexican Cafe and Casa Guadalajara ! An all around fun way to kill a few hours and get some good food . And they always have some great entertainment from some of the local musicians who present you with some of our native music of this region ! And by the way you are so lucky , as I live real close by and would be happy to show ya around . All I ask Is that you don,t disturb me while the Chargers are playing , I have a couple of em on my fantasy team and I have to make sure they score points , OK ? Thank you ! Anyway we got one more stop ! HEY , Im tired too man !
This Is for the Adults ! The Gaslamp District .
Our final destination
The Gaslamp District downtown Is one of the great places for all you grown ups to check out ! And It also became the focus of redevelopment for our downtown area In 1982 . The Gaslamp District Is a playground for all of us big people . You can get an exquisite meal on both 4th and 5th Avenue at any one of a number of Trattorias as well as some great Mexican and Chinese food too ! And all of It Is presented In a sophisticated fashion as well as getting great musical Entertainment at anyone of a number of musical venues . And for the younger adults the Gaslamp District has a ton of dance clubs for you to get your groovething goin !
And so much more too
You wanna go to Tijuana ? You can take the trolley from one of any number of trolley stops , that will take you to the border ! Also Torrey Pines Golf Couse Is world class and hosted the US Open a couple of years ago . I was,nt Invited though for that event , I guess they saw some of my game ! And from the last couple of weeks of July to the first part of September we have the Del Mar horsetrack open . My sister won $400.00 bucks once because she liked the horses name ! While I made $11.00 after much handicapping and study . Go figure ! Now also as a side note I am still allowed In all these places as well. I have not gotten on peoples nerves yet at all the places mentioned . so dont worry everythings cool ! Well this Is my tour of our fair city here . Sorry I did not have more time , but as most of you know I tend to be kinda cranky and I am tired so I am already kinda annoyed ! So If you end up In San Diego , feel free to look me up and I promise I am a nice and well behaved In person . And If you have Heinekens on ya and see some strange guy following you , do not worry Its just me . Anyways have a good night hubbers . And be safe and be well . Later !

I love to travel, and have heard a lot about what a great place San Diego is. Well, based on your lovely tour hub, it looks like a must place to visit! It's nice to 'see' the other side of tough Tony!
This is one of the best sight-seeing hubs I have every read. I love the way you write...very light-hearted and informative. Helium is always looking for a writer like you in their marketplace as most writing is so ... hum hum. They pay anywhere from 20 to 160, depending on the publisher. Excellent.
I'm a baseball fan man and it's not a good sign if the team sucks
You know the next time I am down visiting la familia I will be hitting you up! I love this! I was actually going to write a hub about all the great things in SD because I miss living there...but now I don't have to! You covered all the bases on this one! =)
Nice trip Tony, that was fun, Thanks.

Nicely done. San Diego is absolutely the best place to live in. Even if it has nothing to offer (definitely not the case with your many lovely pictures), the weather is enough--always balmy and lovely--just the best.

Tony -- I have fond, wild memories of trips to San Diego. Do they still do Street Scene? OMG -- talk about girls gone wild (I was a lot younger then, needless to say).
But also nice, calm memories of bringing my son there and not being able to get him off the roller coaster, going crabbing, etc. SD is a GREAT city!
You make a wonderful tour guide. Hope to have the opp to come down and meet you in person sometime. Maybe even talk some politics ha ha!
MM
Last time I was living down there they still did that! ha ha Mighty Mom...you and I must plan a trip down to SD to see Tony and to go wild!!! Moms gone wild! ha ha ha
MM I am glad to say that streetscene still exist ! I went and saw the Saturday performance last time . I saw Silversun Pickups the last time and they put on a great performance live. MM I know you and I would have a great time If you were to show up down here.
JJ I love that Idea ! It would be like a mini hubbers convention . With Marguaritas and Diet Coke for me ! OK maybe a Heineken .
Sounds like a plan! On the way I will snatch up TOADY...although he isn't on here anymore he is still our hub buddy too! We can all go to eat at my favorite Mexican restaurant there too LA HACIENDA in National City!
JJ sounds good ! Toad would just make It a blast !!! I have heard of La Hacienda , never got to go there yet though !!!
if you go they have some awesome food.....my dad always got the fried tilapia (they serve the whole fish) its cool...shrimp cocktails are awesome and just about everything else too. the whole theme is old style mexican..you feel like you stepped back in time and there are tons of old antique spurs and old farming equipment...really cool and an old jukebox too with really old mexican music!
OOOOOHHHH sounds great to me ! Grab Toad and MM too ! I will treat .:D
Hub Conference in San Diego! Woo hoo! What's the real estate market like, Tony?
On the rise MM! Like the rest of the country slow to recover though . But hey It Is San Diego ! It will always have some value . Plus as you know MM , you cannot beat the beaches ! Besides I,m buyin dinner !
Count me in, and I will kidnap toad!~

Grat hub Tony! I already liked San Diego, but you painted a picture of attractions I haven't seen and would like to. So, seriously, you can be my tour guide, no Heinekens however, I am very partial to bottled water...See you there!
