An Overview of Adsense

In this hub I will attempt to give an overview of a clearheaded Adsense strategy for making money with Adsense.

1) Is your purpose to add Adsense to a pre-existing site, i.e. to "monetize" a site you already own, or purely to make money from Google Adsense?

You should get clear about this to begin with, or you can decide to do BOTH, but in such a way as to distinguish between these two strategies, as the work involved for each is slightly different in each case.

2) If you have a pre-existing website, is it focused on one topic?

On balance it is easier to make money, perhaps, with a website that is focused on one issue, subject, or area of interest, than a site that is a general hodge-podge.

This is because the best way to get the search engines to notice you is to focus on a topic, and getting traffic from search engines should always be part of your strategy.

3) If you don't care about monetizing a pre-existing site, but simply want to make money from Google Adsense, the strategy for employing Adsense ads will be different.

Make Money with Adsense without a Website (Yet)

Let us assume that your goal is purely and simply to make money with Google Adsense.

Now, if you have a pre-existing site, you can still monetize it with Google Adsense...

but in this case you will follow a twin strategy involving:

a) the pre-existing site (or blog) you own, and

b) overall strategies for making money with Adsense which may ignore your home site.

That is, to make money from Google Adsense there are probably two routes you can take:

- Build a fantastic site centred around one topic, which will attract the interest of Google, Yahoo! MSN Search and the other countless search engines out there (as well as people who own similar sites, who may place links to your site on their own site, seeing it as a valuable and related resource for their own visitors -- you can always actively approach these people and ask to be linked to, also),

or,

- Research strategies purely focused on making money with Adsense.

(Ideally, if you can manage a strategy that involves/combines both routes, so much the better, though this depends to some degree on the topic of your pre-existing site, and whether the keywords appropriate to that site are high-payers or not. On the other hand, if you research what the most lucrative keywords are, you can build a high-quality site around that topic).

So from what you are saying, it is best to stick to one topic instead of writing about several topics. Aren't you cutting out some potential readers that way? Most of mine are regarding travel, but I write the odd one here and there about family memories or ones spurred on by events such as the rare snow event in Houston just yesterday. It would be better not to do that and just stick to travel?
