American History (Shapers of the Constitution) - George Washington

He is known as the "father of history" - George Washington. He was the first president of the United States of America. He played an important role in shaping the constitution of the United States in the 1787 Constitution Convention.

He was a farmer; yet during the Revolution he was one of the soldiers and leaders of the colonies striving for independence. His expertise in military tactics dated back from his experience during the French Indian War which gave him knowledge of the way the British waged war. He became the unanimous choice to lead the newly formed continental army laying siege of Boston. Now, working against the British, he became a hero of the colonies during the 1777-78 encampment at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. He was that moving leader who drove away the British.

After the war, he remained as a lowly farmer, but only until the United States Constitution was ratified, at which time he became the unanimous choice to become the first president of the United States. Still, he was a farmer. There were stories that in order for him to get by with the cost of his inauguration, he had to borrow money being only rich by his land possession. This is true to the fact-for George Washington was indeed a humble man (though not to the point that he wore wood teeth dentures or that he wore wig).

There were make-believe myths that he threw and skipped a dollar coin across the mile-wide Potomac River-an acceptable legend, but only as a metaphor. (Most probably he did throw rocks along the Rappahannock River close to his childhood home.)

Nonetheless, the influence he threw for the shaping of America is unbelievable. George Washington was one of the most noteworthy presidents of the United States, as he powerfully led the country in its most crucial moments-it's birth as a free nation.
