I have been struggling with keeping my area rug in place on my wood floor. I had assumed it would stay on place if I had carpet. I guess it's a universal problem.
Do you have heavy furniture like a couch or table on the rug? I thought that would help my problem, but the couch and table just give the rug momentum to move back farther and faster. It became a sport with my kids.
So I've given up on the rug for now and moved my furniture up against the wall. I'll keep watching your request, though, and see if anyone has an answer.

there are now thin rubberized non-skid carpet backers you can get, thin enough not to raise the rug too much. At least, in my imagination there are -- so maybe they actually do exist?
Your imagination is enough for me, Theresa!! :-)) It will have to have the strength of steel to withstand my 3 year old, though!!
I do think you are right, actually. I believe I have seen them, as well. But since I decided to give up and push everything up against the wall, they've discovered a "sock rink" which provides HOURS of entertainment!!

This is only a suggestion, but you might try double back tape. I don't know if it will work or not. I believe that it would on the hardwood but not sure about on the carpet.
