When thinking of employment, most people don't think of working from home.  They may have the desire, but don't care to start up a business of their own.  Even with a strong desire, they are still left with questions of what they could possibly do from home.  If you've ever had the desire to work from home in a full time position or even part time, there is a stable career field that you may be interested in.  The medical field is one that is always growing and in need of skilled workers.  If you're like me, then you don't care to have patient interaction.  That is where non-clinical healthcare comes in!  Two of the fastest growing careers in non-clinical or allied healthcare is Medical Transcription and Medical Coding.  Both can be learned at home and performed at home.

The Career of the Medical Transcriptionist

Medical transcriptionists translate doctor-dictated audio files into an electronic typed format for documentation. Generally, medical transcriptionists sit at a computer and listen to audio files through a headset and type the dictation into a word processor.

The Career of the Medical Coder

Medical coding is translating medical language/jargon into numeric language... CODES!! As the name implies, coding is the process of assigning formal, standardized codes to diagnoses and procedures performed by physicians.  Medical coders work with medical records documents and patient charts. They are responsible for identifying diagnostic and procedural information and converting this information into simplified numerical codes that can be electronically processed for payment by 3rd party payers such as Insurance companies and Medicare.
