A ONCE FORGOTTEN MOTHER
67A Once Forgotten Mother
By Maggie Butler
The sparkle in her eye
had turned into a tear,
that dropped upon the velvet rose
in the garden she loved so dear.
Her thoughts were in the past....
so very far away.
Her little boys had grown and gone
and this was Mother’s Day.
The tear that sparkled on the rose,
glimmered and did glow...
while her mind flew back in time.
and memories began to flow.
Wet diapers, mushy kisses,
fat pudgy baby toes,
A bottle of bugs, lots of hugs
a red runny nose.
Puppy dogs, little green frogs,
barefoot in the grass,
Cookie face, messy hair,
“Hey mom, catch my football pass!”
Those memories so tender...
a reminiscence of yesterday,
If only she could hold her boys,
this lonely, Mother’s Day.
The tear, that oh did shimmer,
heard her sad, sweet sigh.
In a gentle voice began to say,
“Sweet Mother do not cry...”
“The devotion to your boys
and all the love you shared,
will never be forgotten,
for the Lord has always cared.
She glanced about her garden
that before was dark with gloom
Bursting out in brilliant color..
for now it was in bloom.
The tear that glowed upon the rose
and had trickled from her eye,
had become an iridescent star
and soared into the sky!!
What wonderous gifts of gracious love
the Almighty had sent her way
A once forgotten mother,
remembered on Mother’s Day.

good post it has a real life about it
A beautiful hub! I can't remember my mother, she passed away when I was a wee nipper, but this is the way I like to think I might remember her.
What a gorgeous mother's day poem. An everyday to a mother poem, really. Love it.
