ASP vs PHP in China
62and what it has to do with china’s web 2.0 scene lagging behind.
I guess most people agree that PHP is a more convinient language than Microsofts ASP,
since first it runs on open source software, goes along with MYSQL which is open source to, is more flexible and faster because it’s not based on another architecture like ASP.Maybe I’m just a linux lover, and of course we have ASP-Net framework now, that pretty much lets you use all the other languages up to the ones like Jscript.
Big weakness here again though, ASP-Net is definitely more easier than it’s ancestor (yes I know I’m too dramatic) and sometimes it’s hard to find any similarities outside the name.
But all that open source code that has been written for PHP makes it unbeatable. It’s so hard for people to find lets say pligg in ASP or Typo whatever, scripts you can build upon to create something greater, innovate or just improve previous versions.
So why is it that so many programmers are still about ASP here in China?
since it’s so sucky?
Well I’m guessing it has something to do that It’s beeing thought in school, along with visual basic, it’s mainly a course that everyone has to take.
C++ and PhP? No, you’re going to have to learn this on your own.
You would think in a country with such a low income per person, that peeps would like to choose the one that goes with the open source software you’ll get for free.
(example india)
I have talked to some professors and they see the same disadvantage,
I’ve been told that it’s just hard to change the system.
ASP is not that bad, it just a brick wall on the way to innovation.
If we want to catch up with the rest of the world, we have to find a way to make this a little more popular to the universities, highschools and the old generation of coder.
Big respect to you guys that learned it on their own!
We’re never going to get the basement coder yeehaa with ASP.
Otherwise AJAX is going to be noticed only in the year 2036.
