Goth Gem in Vegas

Las Vegas is full of bars and clubs. There are hole in the wall saloons and there are many high end clubs that require being on lists. There seems to be a little something for everyone in Vegas. Even the alternative crowd can have a great time on the strip thanks to a little club called Sanctuary.

Sanctuary is held at the Krave lounge on Friday nights. Krave is located right next to Planet Hollywood (formerly the Aladdin) right on the strip. Krave is also a quick walk away from a 24-hour McDonalds for the late night food run. It's also a short walk from many of the casino resorts on the strip.

While the goth scene seems to be the primary group out on a Friday night, the club welcomes all people of all social groups. I went with a group of my non-goth friends, and we were all welcomed.

Locals, and those in the know, will tell you that Krave is a gay bar. Indeed it is, but Sanctuary is not held in Krave proper. Just down from the main entrance to the club, there is another door. This is where you enter the "Krave Lounge." By day, the lounge is what appears to be a Chinese restaurant, but every Friday night it is transformed into a playground for the more darkly inclined. The Chinese décor is fitting for the Friday night club. It uses a lot of reds and darker colors that lend themselves nicely to the club's atmosphere.

The DJs play a great variety of what is most times considered "goth" music. While the goth scene seems to be the primary group out on a Friday night, the club welcomes all people of all social groups. I went with a group of my non-goth friends, and we were all welcomed.

Sanctuary is much like many other Goth clubs in that the people in the scene are very cliquey. Basically, they stick to the people they already know. If you go to the club alone, you have a better chance of being let in to a group than if you come with a group. Meeting new people in mainstream clubs is much easier. If that is the club environment you are used to, then this might be quite the shock to your system. I usually try to people watch at first to get a feel for the place and the people there. Plus I love seeing the different ways people dance and interact. I once spent an entire evening sitting with a new found friend on a balcony just watching the crowd and had wonderful time. After a while I might dance and try to see if I can mingle into other groups. I did not have much luck with that at Sanctuary, but I suspect that had a lot to do with the fact I was already with a large group.

One of the big selling points for Sanctuary is the price. There is no cover before midnight, and well drinks are $2 up until midnight as well. After midnight, there is only a $5 cover and well drinks are also $5. Compared to other clubs on the strip, that is a steal. You will not find a better price!

I was impressed with my visit to Sanctuary. When I do return to Vegas someday, I plan on returning and having a great time again!
