For the first time in many years I spent a couple of hours yesterday at the Detroit Zoo. What a pleasant surprise! The Zoo is now much more animal and viewer-friendly. More natural habitats have been created with the animals separated from the visitors by moats rather than bars. No more animals confined to small cages. Perhaps it was my imagination, but the animals seemed happier and looked better than I recalled from my previous visits. I had forgotten how beautiful they are--the regal lions, massive and powerful rhinos, the smiling dromedary pals, the almost human apes, the sleek Bengal tiger, and the incredibly beautiful peacocks and macaws.

Highly recommended for a day when the weather is nice.

These photo are wonderful to view. In what kind of habitat do they keep the Illustrated Man?  :)  The three wise camels really look like they are up to something humorous.

I must try to find out what type of bird is the short one that is fire-engine orange. He's with the flamingos and has a long beak.  I don't know him.

Thanks for the pictures

Thanks for the comment. Sorry, I can't tell you what the orange bird is.
