Brindle Boxer Dog

The familiar color of boxer dogs includes tones of fawn and brindle. Fawn includes a wide range of tones, varying from yellow to light tan. It also includes other shades of fawn like reddish tan, deer red, mahogany and dark honey blonde. Thus, fawn boxers with a rich colored coat are also referred to as ‘red'. Brindle boxer dogs have a fawn colored base coat with black stripes. It is not rare to find ‘reverse brindles'.

Reverse brindles refer to boxers with heavy striping, which gives the effect of fawn stripes on a black background. These dense stripes merely create the illusion of fawn stripes, but the fact remains that they have fawn coats with heavy black stripes. Breed standards clearly states that the fawn coat of the boxer must necessarily show clearly through the brindling or else a heavily brindled boxer dog stands chances of being disqualified. Since, the boxer does not have the gene for black pigmentation of coats; you will never find a black boxer.

The American Kennel Club classifies dogs into 7 categories, based on the specific purposes they are reared for-herding, sporting, non-sporting, hound, terrier, working and toy. The largest breed listed in the working dog category comprises of the boxers. Irrespective of whether they are white boxers, fawn or brindle boxer dog, this entire breed has not only proven its efficiency as a utility dog, but also makes a great, compassionate pet.

Caring for a brindle boxer dog is the same as any for any other boxer. Experts recommend giving brindle boxer dogs a natural and well-balanced diet, rather than a commercially prepared food can. This not only makes for a more nutritious meal but also ensures that your pet boxer is getting the appropriate diet essential for his growth and development.

The BARF diet or the Biologically Appropriate Raw Food makes the task of feeding the boxer easier because you can add or deduct supplements from his dish of bones and raw food. The BARF diet consists of raw meat, bones, raw processed vegetables, milk products, eggs, seafood, fruits, grains, and a few supplements. This makes for a very balanced diet, as you get to control not only the ingredients of their diet but also the quality. You can choose to leave out dairy products and offal, if your brindle boxer dog doesn't have the taste for it.

Occasionally, including some yoghurt also in the diet will help to keep the boxer healthy and fit. However, it is very essential to monitor the diet closely, as most boxers are easily prone to food allergies. Recent reports indicate that grapes or raisins in large amounts can cause acute kidney failure in dogs, so keep a strict watch on which ingredients you include in the diet.

The brindle boxer dog may have dark or black stripes on a fawn background that runs in the direction of the ribs. According to breed standards, the basic fawn color of the coat must clearly contrast with the stripes. Appropriate white markings that enhance the appearance of the brindle boxer dog are acceptable.
