Cagayan de Oro is otherwise known to as "The City of Golden Friendship". It's name is composed with spanish words "de" and "Oro" which means of & gold respectively. It is otherwise known as Kagay-an where Kagay in Higao-non means a "river." The city became known as Cagayan de Oro or the "river of gold" they said because during the early 19th century, gold ores were abundant along the river.

For many years have past, it has been the center for trade and services of the entire Northern Mindanao and is also among those cities in the Philipines clasified as first class. Its abbreviation were CDO, CDOC, CdeO or Cag. de Oro. It is located in the northern coast of Mindanao. It is also known as one of Philippines most progressive city and picturesque.

Kagayanons were the term to call people from Cagayan de Oro. Their using Cebuano, Tagalog or Bisaya as there main dialect. However, most people understand and widely using english in schools, media, government and some other comercial transactions. Cagayan de Oro is a gateway to other destinations in Northern Mindanao because of its location and good transportation facilities. It was popularly known as The City of Golden Friendship because Kagayanons were warm and hospitable people.

  • Macahambus Cave: It is a 130-foot circumference underground cave. It is said that during world war II, Filipino soldiers use the cave as their shelter and strategic treacherous location in winning tactical battles against the Americans.


  • Cagayan de Oro River Rapids: If you are looking for adventure, white water rafting in Cagayan de Oro River is definitely for you! It has breathtaking rapids that will dazzle you with thrilling and challenging rapids intervals not less than 10 – 15 minutes appart from each other. What makes it more interesting is the rivers' panoramic view, untouched vegetation and monkeys along the river.


  • CdeO Night Cafe: CDO Night Cafe is comparable to the "Night Markets" in popular cities like Singapore or Bangkok. However, a lot of "well-travelled" people say it is a lot cleaner.


  • White Island in Camiguin: Camiguin island is a two-hour drive away from city proper. Camiguin is known for its line of white sand beaches ideal for family gatherings and relaxation. Other than that, volcanoes, hot springs and suncken semetery were also tourest a attraction.


  • Devine Mercy Shrine: One of the best landmarks to visit this day is the Divine Mercy Hills located in Barangay Ulaliman, El Salvador City. It is the most cherished landmark by every Divine Mercy devotee in this part of the country.


  • Mapawa Nature Park: If you are interestek in a forest trek, go to Mapawa Nature Park. You can enjoy horseback riding, trampoline, 25 meters monkey bridge and 70- 100 meters rappel, cattle wrestling show, eco-trek and river trek.Most of all, enjoy the nature fresh air and top of the mountain view.

There are a handfull of nice place to visit in Cagayan de Oro. Those are just some of most beautiful sites and adventure destinations. These are just some for a group or family outing this destinations during summer.

CDO eh. Do you know your just 4 hours away from me? =) I go there for business trips but I have yet to see the sights of CDO. Maybe after reading your hub we'll make plans to go to these sights. Thanks!
