There are many makes and models of carpet cleaning machines available if you are in the market. Keeping your carpet clean is one responsibility you cannot overlook no matter how disinclined you are to do it. But you have some options that could make it easy on you. Cleaning could be anything from a simple vacuuming to having to remove stains that have worked themselves into the fibers of your carpet. Depending on your needs, making a purchase on a carpet cleaning machine is really a matter of what kind of cleaning you are doing. When it comes to everyday cleaning a vacuum will be the perfect inexpensive item to purchase for your home. When it comes to heavier cleaning you have to decide whether your budget allows you to pay for a professional cleaning, renting carpet cleaning machines or outright buying one.

Types of Carpet Cleaning Machines

Before making deciding on a purchase let's look at various types of home carpet cleaning machines to give you a better idea of what you need. Usually homes that have wall to wall carpet require weekly cleaning more often as dust will collect faster. Something that can handle this kind of light cleaning once a week would be better suited for something you can keep in your home to use as needed. Heavy trafficked areas will mean dirt marks or stains are more likely. This kind of cleaning requires equipment that can handle heavier tasks. While this isn't always something you need to keep handy, it can be expensive if you decide you want to rent equipment for these kinds of jobs. Once you know the kind of cleaning you are expecting it will become apparent what kind of carpet cleaning machine you will need.

Vacuum Cleaners

Vacuum Cleaners

Vacuum cleaners are by far the best carpet cleaning machines and are what more people think of when mentioning carpet cleaning. They've been around forever and make the simplest cleaning tasks easy, whether you purchase a standard upright vacuum cleaner that moves over your carpet easily to remove dirt and dust or something a little more modern and portable like a canister vacuum cleaner, which allows you to vacuum objects like your couch, mattress or anything covered in a fabric. Their long hoses help getting into tight spots fairly easy, like the insides of your couch. Vacuums work best as light weekly cleaning machines for basic room maintenance. Because they are so common they can be really inexpensive, usually under $300 even for one with a lot of bells and whistles.

Carpet Shampooer

Carpet Shampooer

Carpet Shampooers are for heavy duty cleaning like removing stains. They look like everyday vacuum cleaners except for an attached tank that holds the shampoo solution. This solution is dispensed on the carpet through a hose that runs down to two rotating brushes. These brushes move in a vee pattern to help pull out deep seated stains. As shampooing a carpet isn’t always a necessity, this kind of cleaning is often relegated to professionals or the commercial carpet cleaning machines can be rented as opposed to owning one. However, if your carpets are prone to spills then there are plenty of home models available to choose from. These are as varied as the everyday vacuum cleaner in style but will run a bit more. Usually though, you can find them for under $500.

Carpet Steam Cleaning Machines

Carpet steam cleaning machines use a liquid cleaning solvent that is turned to steam at the surface of your carpet, which with the aid of rotating brushes and an extractor that sucks up the residue helps remove deeply imbedded stains that a common vacuum cleaner couldn't. It also has a heater apparatus that dries the carpet once the stain has been removed. One of the best features of carpet steam cleaning machines is they don’t make the noise of a vacuum cleaner. They resemble carpet shampooers and can come in portable models but they are much cheaper in price comparatively. You can find them at most home appliance stores for under $200. Shop online to get the best priced steamer with the most features.

Dry Carpet Cleaning Machines

Dry Carpet Cleaning Machines

Dry carpet cleaning machines are probably the most time consuming money pit in the carpet cleaning industry. They require you to first vacuum the area of the stain to remove any existing loose dirt. Then you pre-clean the stain as much as possible with a stain remover of your choice before you apply a dry carpet cleaner. You then brush the area with a dry carpet cleaning machine and finally vacuum the remaining dirt. You would probably agree that this is a complete waste of time. Another downside of this approach is that any leftover soap residue will attract more dirt and the stain will seem to reappear. It's also on the expensive side with a complete system costing around $500. The only benefit to this approach is that it can be done in an eco-friendly way utilizing environmentally safe cleaners.

Using Carpet Cleaning Machines

It doesn't matter the size of your carpeted area, you will need to invest in one of the above mentioned home carpet cleaning machines at some point. The size of your home can be a deciding factor as much as traffic and how much carpet you have to clean. Having an idea how to use one is just as important so I've included a video on how to use carpet cleaning machines. Enjoy.
