As you all may very well know, keeping fit is one of the most important things you can do to live a very long and healthy life. In this hub I will explain to you why heart rate monitors are an amazing tool that you can use to help you make the most out your exercise routine. I will also explain what a heart rate monitor is exactly and how and why you should use them.

First off, lets make sure we're on the same page, as I said before proper exercise is essential to keeping your body healthy. If you were to simply eat properly and exercise on a regular basis you might only need a few weights and certain simple tools like heart rate monitors to live a very healthy life. There is little need for vitamins and supplements when you take good care of yourself.

Maybe the best thing to do before going into great detail about why heart rate monitors are a key tool to use when exercising, I will explain to you what heart rate monitors are.


Heart rate monitors are very simply a device that measures your heart rate at any given time. This device can also help keep track of your average, highest and lowest heart rate for any given time. Heart rate monitors come in a great variety of shapes and sizes. There is definitely one out there for you no matter how vigorous your workout sessions are.

Now this is something that you should keep in mind. There are two types of people that may be in need of a heart rate monitor. Those of us that use them as a tool to help keep fit and people that are ill with heart issues that need to keep track of their heart rate. I will only be discussing using heart rate monitors as a fitness tool in this hub, although, they can be used just as efficiently for any other reason.

Basically, you can use a heart rate monitor for any reason as long as you require a tool that measures heart rates. It is amazing at how many uses you can fidn for a tool like a heart rate monitor.


The reason that I wrote this hub is to discuss why heart rate monitors make the best tool to help keep track of the intensity of your workouts. Before I can go into details about this I need to go over the two different types of workouts that you can do.

These two types of workouts can be broken up into to very different categories, Muscular and Cardiovascular. You may know muscular workouts as weight lifting or weight training, unless you have a heart condition, heart rate monitors won't be very useful for this type of exercise.

I am here to tell you that the most important workout, or type of exercise, to your overall health is cardiovascular exercise and that is the type of exercise that works well with a heart rate monitor.


You may be asking yourself why I would say that cardiovascular exercise, such as, running, swimming or jogging is the most important exercise. Well there is a simple answer to that question. Cardio exercise works out the most important organ in your body, your heart. This is why it's great to use a tool like a heart rate monitor to make sure you are working out that organ properly.

This is why cardio workouts and heart rate monitors go together hand and hand. It's all about keeping that vital organ running healthy and strong, your heart.
