Plastic Storage Bins
79Plastic storage bins are similar to boxes but they are typically much smaller and are made to be used like drawers. Many are made as drawers in fact, with plastic frames. They provide a simple and affordable solution to home or office storage. With our busy lives today clutter is easily a problem. Sometimes it is easier to just toss something in a drawer and find it later. Plastic storage bins make an economical way to satisfy your storage needs to maximize space and reduce clutter. Because they are made to act as drawers many plastic storage bins are stackable and snap into place. You can also find them with or without lids. The ones without lids make for great desktop storage as compartmental inboxes.
What Are Plastic Storage Bins
Stackable plastic storage bins are made of high density polyethelyene plastics to make them viable for home and office storage. Most have a 100lb capacity for storing simple items and can usually stack high enough to fit several in a room for maximum storage capacity. They are waterproof and won't rust or corrode. Cleaning is easy and requires only a wipe of a damp cloth to remove any dirt or stain. They are available in a variety of colors which can be used to identify them easily, but they almost always have a place for labels.
Modular Plastic Storage Bins
These are large plastic storage bins with compartments. They are adjustable, removable and interlocking. They have small plastic storage bins within the larger framework to act as a sort of multi-purpose storage unit. The interlocking parts make it so you can change the shape and height of the bin and you can even attach the unit to the wall as they have pre-drilled wall mount holes. The handles are recessed to allow easy grip and sliding action on the plastic tracking. Each bin has its own label slot and dividers. One of the options you have is to get these in clear plastic storage bins with flip top lids. This allows quick identification and easier access to items within.
Decorate Your Plastic Storage Bins
While they aren't the prettiest storage cabinets in the world, if you are of the mind to decorate you can easily adapt them into eye pleasing units. This is a good idea when stacking small plastic storage bins in a laundry room or children's room or any space that is out in the open. Even if you aren't an interior designer and don't have sewing skills, you can still complete this project in a short amount of time. All you need is some cheap plastic storage bins, a tape measure, a drill, your fabric of choice, a pencil, iron and some wheels.
Take one of your bins and turn it over face down. Use your drill to make holes an inch from the corners on the bottom. These should be large enough to fit your wheel stems. Turn your bin over and drill two holes in the front about four inches apart. This will be for the handles if your bin has none.
Measure the width and height and add a few extra inches and cut your fabric to match. The extra fabric will be used to make the hems. Paste your pattern to the bin with the hem coming just under the lip of the top. You want it to overhang at the bottom at this point. Do this for all sides. Flip the hanging edges under and paste to the bottom of the bin. Punch through the fabric covering the wheel holes and insert stems. Secure wheels. Punch through the fabric where your handle holes are. Insert cord or twine and tie on the inside. These are your handles. Allow to ample time to dry and you are finished. Rinse and repeat for all or you plastic storage bins.
The video below explains plastic video bins very well. It's about two minutes long so it won't take very long too watch. Enjoy.

Monofilament line is another name for single-strand, high-density nylon fishing line that is used on fishing reels. Of course all men know what it is, but some women do not. The used line can be harmful to boat motors and marine life.
