An accurate bathroom scale in your home has its own rewards. There could be only few more annoying things that can upstage weighing yourself. One of them could be weighing yourself again and again to get clear-cut and consistent readings. Not all bathroom scales are created equal. Analog bathroom scales are usually right on the mark when they are relatively new. Digital bathroom scales are better at telling how heavy one could be. But digital scales are more expensive and require battery replacements at regular intervals, except of course for the solar powered models. The analog bathroom scales generation seems to be dying a slow death and is facing extinction. Digital scales are coming out with the pledge of correctly telling, not guessing, one’s body weight.

Actually, it is consistency that is more important as argued by most users. It is a little bit more important than accuracy. Weighing scales giving constant readings are more dependable and much easier to use. Bathroom scales are acknowledged to be off by at least a pound. Of course, scales cannot be at fault if the owner’s weight is beyond the scale’s highest capacity. Scales with more incremental lines are easier to read and are, of course, more accurate. Even minor weight differences can be detected. Thus, one is able to keep a watch on his weight much better. If you are shopping for a new bathroom scale, try looking for the ones with a fifth or a fourth of a pound increment. Analog bathroom scales that are weight-balanced are more accurate than spring-balanced scales. Never trust used bathroom scales, even if they are slightly used and may cost less. They may probably be already damaged and will never give truthful and steady measurements.

After buying a new scale, it is best to test it. Stand on it repeatedly and see if it gives consistent readings. This is one way of measuring bathroom scale accuracy. Or get something that you already know how heavy it is and then weight it. It should give an accurate reading. If not, bring it back to the store and get a replacement. Buying a new bathroom scale may require some steps to follow. It should match the look and feel of your bathroom. You don’t want it to look like it is out of place. You should remember to shop according to your pocket, which is just like for anything else. Also, there are accurate scales and more accurate scales. Scales may have increments of half a pound up to a tenth of a pound. It goes without saying that the more accurate it is, it is more expensive. But this shouldn’t be a problem. The choice which scale should be according to your needs. A typical half pound bathroom scale is good for the home. But for athletes and body builders, they require the more accurate models as their training and condition normally depend on it.

Sometimes, an accurate bathroom scale is true and exact but the user’s body is not. For women, their body stores and holds on to water some days before menstruation. So, they may have a full and overstuffed condition. This, however, will pass after a few days. It is then best to avoid the bathroom scale during this time. Weighing yourself before and after a strenuous session of exercise is simply like cracking a joke at yourself and fooling yourself. Since the body is mostly water, the pound or so difference means you just lost water through sweat and not actually lost weight or mean that your scale is no longer precise. Another water-related weight phenomenon is how much salt is in your diet. Your body will retain the water in your body rather than excreting it to prevent dehydration.

Everyone is obsessed with bathroom scale accuracy but I don't see why. As long as it can tell you when you lose a pound then you should be fine.
