Many people often experience acid reflux when they eat foods that cause acid reflux.  Acid reflux or GERD is caused from the stomach not functioning properly.  If the stomach is functioning properly then the foods are broken down and digested into the small intestine.  For people with lots of acid reflux, the stomach doesn’t break down the food properly which can cause an excess of stomach acidity.  There are many different acid reflux treatments that are available.

For people who are looking for a quick and easy solution to acid reflux, they can buy an over the counter antacid which can help balance the stomach’s PH level.  These products usually are really high in alkaline and contain lots of calcium.   They are very good for short term relief of an acid reflux, but do nothing to solve the problem in the long term.

Other forms of treatment can be prescription drugs.  These are often more powerful than other treatments and work very well at reducing the symptoms of acid reflux.

The problem with taking these kinds of medicines is that you may gain a dependency on the drugs that you are taking.  Creating a dependency will hurt your body’s natural function of breaking down the acid.

Some more natural acid reflux treatment methods you can use are changing your lifestyle.  People who smoke and drink often develop severe cases of acid reflex because of these habits.  Cutting down on the amount you smoke and drink will enable help your stomach repair is normal function.  Other changes that you should be making are cutting out the excess amount of spicy, greasy, fatty, and any other foods that contain high acid levels.  By eating more fruits and vegetables you can also provide your body with enough vitamins and nutrients to repair your stomach functions.

Other things that affect the stomachs acidity levels are overeating.  People who eat really large portions are more likely to develop symptoms of acid reflux.  A solution to this is to try and spread your meals out from 3 large meals a day to 5-6 smaller meals.  By eating smaller meals, you are giving your stomach a chance to break down the food, which will avoid an acid reflux occurrence.

Specialists also recommend that you try and avoid eating before you go to bed.  Eating before going to bed often increases the chance of getting acid reflux because your oesophagus is in a horizontal position while you sleep.  Remember that the acid reflux treatment that works best depends on each individual.  Some people respond better to certain acid reflux treatments.  If you are doing something that you know causes bad acid reflux, try and avoid doing that activity in the future.
