Acknowledging Your Death

Peace.
Peace.

It would be foolish to not think about it.....

When you look back on your life in those last moments, what will you remember most? What will be the thoughts and memories that you will have? What are the regrets, and the things that you wish you could have changed?

I know this sounds so old, but your life is fairly short. I mean, the things these companies do with food, and with crime, your life span has been cut by at least 20yrs. So what do you imagine your last moments will be like? Maybe a seen from a movie with your family around you, your old and gray, and your giving your last orders and wishes. Or maybe just passing away in your sleep. My favorite movie part was in City of Angels when the angel asked the little girl when she died, what did she like best. Anyway, who knows how we will go right? The fact is we really don't think about death. We don't think about it until the ole hooded man sneaks up on us. But it would be foolish not to think about it everyday. Thinking about dying puts your life in perspective. It forces you to put a value on things that are most important. It points you to being mature, and less focused on childish things. But most people are so caught up in the rat race, death always comes to them as a surprise.
I view my life this way....I'm here for a reason. I have foolishly placed my life in death's hands some many times, its not even funny. So to be around, God must have a purpose for my life. So I respect the value in it (life). Look at it this way. Life appears to be long and troublesome. But as you get older, it was only a blink of an eye. For example, it was like yesterday, I was 12, and I couldn't wait to be 13. Now I'm 35. You see, in my life I have seen some wonderful things. But I have seen horrible things that evil men do. I greet death every morning, and I am very mindful of him at night. We have an understanding, death and I. He teaches me that we as mortal beings take time for granted. We assume we have alot of it (time). For example, I have a beautiful woman. I lay next to her every night, and awake with her every mourning. I marvel at her beauty, and the way she does things. I respect her love, and kindness. Through out the day I sometimes pause, and watch her. I cherish the moments I share with her because I feel I don't have alot of time on this side of heaven, to really appreciate her. You see, we all think we will live into our 70's, and 80's- but we really only live to about 60....if that.
I remember as a child I went to a funeral of a man about the age of 50. I had just seen him a week prior, and he dropped dead. Then there was a man that was about there 30 that died....I'm 35.....You see what I'm getting at? My Grandmother always said "JK, you are not promised tomorrow, so live for today." She also told me a strange saying-"give me my flowers while I am still living, so I can enjoy them." Think about it.
Our time line in life is not certain, even infants die before WE think they should. When we die we are not angels, we don't go instantly to heaven. We sleep. We sleep, waiting for our judgment. The Bible clearly states "the dead know nothing". And as Jesus puts it "we sleep". So it would clearly be like you went to sleep, and then woke up before God. Now did you really get what I just said? Think about it this way. If you go to sleep at 10pm, and woke up at 8am, doesn't it seem like you just blinked your eyes? Think about this as if you had to get up and go to work. So is it with your death. Take heed to what is being said. View your time ending as unexpected, or sudden if you will. Take time out from this world, and love your life....you only get one.
Or like my Grandfather would say "Soon I'll be drink'n root beer, and eat'n clay sandwiches." Think on that for a few ticks.
