Acne Laser Treatment

Acne laser treatment options have been regarded as a highly helpful emerging technology for acne sufferers. Acne laser treatment is becoming more popular each year and is actually replacing other standard acne-removal techniques. As people realize that they do not want to be on acne pills or medication their entire lives due various reasons like: ineffectiveness, high costs, or the thought of popping pills for the rest of their lives.

You may be in the same situation, so I’m here to help you understand what acne laser treatment is all about. Laser treatment for acne is a new acne treatment method involving a licensed medical doctor working with a “laser-pen” and focusing a beam of light (e.g. the laser) on the acne and acne scars. The doctor then moves the acne laser back and forth until the unwanted tissue has been removed or lasered away.

New skin tissue actually forms after the laser treatment for acne. Laser treatment happens to be fairly safe should you ever decide to get it done. In most cases you will feel very little pain (if any). After the treatment, you may experience slight swelling of the face and potential bruised regions on your skin, but side-effects are relatively short lasting; they only continue for a couple weeks after your treatment.  And though acne laser treatment has been highly effective, it still is not considered a cure for acne.

Acne Scar Laser Treatment: Are There Restrictions?

It seems unsafe, but there are no regulations in the emerging field of acne scar laser treatment. Anyone who owns an acne-laser can perform the treatment should they choose. I do not believe it is wise to get treated by someone without much experience. Do some research if you decide to get the treatment, and find someone who has plenty of experience under their belt. It’ll only be a matter of time before our government smartens up and creates restrictions regarding the treatment.  Who can get treated?  Generally, it is considered an effective teen and adult acne treatment.

If you don’t know where to look to find a qualified treatment option, consult a dermatologist. Dermatologists have the most direct experience in the treatment of acne and will obviously know more than a non-dermatologist regarding laser treatment. Some plastic surgeons are also qualified to practice laser treatment for acne. If you can find a reliable plastic surgeon, chances are high that they understand how to perform the treatment.

Acne Laser Skin Treatment Checklist:

  1. Find a Qualified Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon – First of all, you want to make sure a qualified dermatologist or plastic surgeon is performing the treatment. You do not want a low-qualified doctor – only to find out after the treatment that something went majorly wrong. This would not be a good look for neither you nor the doctor (pun intended).
  2. Ask if You Are a Good Candidate for Treatment – It is important to ask the dermatologist or plastic surgeon whether they honestly believe you are a good candidate for acne laser treatment. This form of treatment is definitely not for everyone – so it is important to be sure you are not going
  3. Ask for Proof of Expertise – Never be afraid to ask questions! Ask how the treatment is performed, what to expect, how to prepare, how many people have had this done, how many people have had success, etc. It is common sense to ask to before/after pictures of the dermatologist’s patients who had the treatment done. This helps you get a better idea if the dermatologist really has experience in the field of acne laser treatments.

Acne Laser Treatments: The Success Rate

Studies have actually been conducted on the efficacy/success rates of acne laser treatments. It has been shown that after one treatment, there was mild improvement, after two treatments moderate improvement, and after three treatments, there was significant improvement in acne. So, if you are considering getting acne laser treatments, plan on more than one treatment session to maximize the success rate. Your dermatologist or plastic surgeon will give you clear instructions regarding the success rate.  It is generally considered more effective than the less expensive microdermabrasion acne therapy.

Acne Laser Treatment: Skin Color Matters

The techniques utilized in acne laser treatment are different depending on your skin color. If you tend to have naturally darker skin, the dermatologist or surgeon will likely tune the laser to a combination of frequencies in the removal process. If you have lighter skin, you may be susceptible to losing pigmentation in your skin. Doctors have varying laser treatment option opinions that may be dependant on your skin color.

Laser Treatment for Acne Scars: Cost Information

Though laser treatment for acne scars can be a huge success, you need to make sure that you have a budget in order to get the treatment. Laser treatment typically will cost anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 dollars. Each dermatologist and surgeon has a different rate, so you may want to shop around. On the other hand, if one is clearly highly qualified, you may want to pay the extra money to ensure your safety and that the surgeon does a good job.

For more information, I included a video below of Acne Laser Treatment being performed so you can see how it’s done. If other acne solutions are not working out well, I highly recommend that you check into acne laser treatment. It could prove to be one of the best investments you make in your self image.
