EXERCISES IN AWARENESS

Lessons 1 to 6

1.      Spend a few minutes daily just feeling something without making hallucination as to what it is, just feel its texture, shape, qualities etc.

2.      Taste different foods as if for the first time, savour the flavour, texture.

3.      Listen to different sounds, their pitch, timbre, resonance, echo qualities, harmony.

4.      Observe things. Stare at them; focus in on them, diffuse and gaze at them.  Notice the different colours, how they blend.  Notice clarity, haziness, transparency etc.

5.      Smell aromas – don’t differentiate between good and bad, just appreciate.  Some smells may be first time – others familiar.  Strong, pungent, delicate, fragrant.

6.      Use as many different ways to describe your experiences from tactive to visual.  Notice how using a more rich terminology and using one sense at a time changes your subjective reality.

Finally integrate all six qualities.
