Get a Google Account

The very first thing you need to do is get a Google account.....if you have an email address with Gmail then your are already there.

Next go to the Webmaster Tools home page, log in, and click the "Add Your Site" icon.

Get META tag

Once you add the website, a conformation page will populate with a special piece of META that will need to be put into the header of your Wordpress powered site.

Log into Admin Area of your Website

Go to the Administrative portion of your site in a new browser window. On the left part of your screen there is a tab title Appearance. Under this tab click the Editor link.

This will open up the place 9theme editor) where we will insert the META code.

Make Room for the META tag

Click on the Header link on the right. This will take us to the header.php theme which is where we will need to insert the META code. Make a space in between the <meta http> line of code and the <title> line of code.

Paste in your Code

Take the piece of code from the Webmaster tools verification page and paste it directly into the space we made in the header.php file and click Update File.

View Source of your Website

Next open another window and go to the home page of your website.  In the browser menu find the View dropdown and click Page Source at the bottom.  With this page source near the top you should be able to see the piece of code we just entered.

Verify!

Finally once you can see the code in the Page Source go back to your Google Webmaster tools and hit the Verify site button.  It it works then your will be taken to the Webmaster tools dashboard of your site where you can view all kinds of great info!
