If you’re shopping for car insurance in New Jersey, it’s fairly simple to choose your basic coverage. New Jersey car insurance quotes will list a “basic policy” and a “standard policy”. The basic policy will contain just the minimum coverage required by law. The standard policy will contain the same items, but with higher amounts on property damage and bodily injury. Most drivers choose the standard policy to provide more coverage and many up the limits on the personal injury protection (PIP) as well. New Jersey recommends that all drivers carry uninsured motorist coverage on their standard or basic policy.

But, it’s also important to understand two optional forms of coverage that you may want to add to your New Jersey car insurance quote. These coverage options protect your vehicle.

Collision – Collision insurance pays for repairs or replacement of your vehicle. In an accident where the other party is at fault, their property damage coverage will pay for damage to your vehicle, up to its limits. However, if you cause an accident, you’ll have no coverage for repairs or replacement of your vehicle unless you carry collision coverage. If you still owe money on your vehicle, your finance company will likely require that you carry collision insurance until the loan is paid in full.

Comprehensive – Comprehensive coverage insures your vehicle against damage caused by circumstances other than an accident. You’ll need comprehensive insurance for payment if your car is stolen, vandalized or damaged by fire, wind or hail.

Talk to your insurance agent about the cost of adding these two options to your New Jersey car insurance quotes. You may also want to get quotes from one or two other insurance companies to compare rates on the same coverage. Car insurance companies very often have different rates, and you could very well save money by taking the time to shop around before you make a decision.

Finding an insurance agent that you trust is important. Once you’ve evaluated the New Jersey car insurance quotes you’ve received, sit down with one or two of the agents in person to go over the quotes, if possible. Discuss all the available types of coverage and determine which options fit your lifestyle. Your agent may be able to offer advice on additional coverage and appropriate limits and may be able to help you find discounts to save you money.

New Jersey car insurance can be expensive, particularly if you’re adding coverage above the minimum requirements. However, being fully protected is important. Just be certain that you find ways to get the best deal, too. For more tips on saving money on your New Jersey car insurance quotes, visit www.cheapcarinsurancequotetips.com .
