Adjustable Dumbells
59One of the best fitness equipment ever invented was the adjustable dumbells. If you work out at the gym, then you know that it can sometimes be a pain having to wait for the right dumbell to be free to do your reps. Normally, you have to end up using something that is heavier or lighter and mess up your workout a bit. But even so, that was the best way to get access to such a wide range of weights for your workout needs.
Now I'm sure that you also have some dumbbells at home as well but most likely, you only have a few so the range of weights is very limited. To have a full set of weights, you will have to invest a ton of money to buy each pair of incremental weights. Added to that is the fact that you will need a lot of space to store all of it. Another annoyance you will have is when switching weights. When you have a bunch of them lying around, you have to move them back and forth and basically juggle your way to the right dumbbells. So is there anything out there that can not only save you space but also money if you want some dumbells at home? Fortunately, there is. This is what the adjustable dumbells are all about.
The first time I saw one of these advertised on T.V. was for the one that Bowflex made. When I saw that commercial, I thought that was the coolest invention but because that type of dumbell had just come out at the time, it was too pricey for me. Since I owned a Bowflex and know the convenience of having one, I knew that it was a good piece of equipment but just couldn't bring myself to pay so much money. So I waited. Here's part of the commerical by the way.

Bowflex Adjustable Dumbells
After a while, I just forgot about it. A few years later perhaps, I walked into a sporting store and saw the Bowflex brand adjustable dumbell. You can see a picture of it to the right. I also saw several other brands as well. I'm not sure if Bowflex was the original inventor of the concept but one thing was for sure; because of competition, the price for a set was a lot lower.
So I went ahead and tried them out there at the store. I also tried out some of the other brands too. The abilit to switch weight with such ease was as amazing as I remembered it when I first saw it being advertised on T.V. Since you only need 1 set of dumbbells, you were pretty much set. It saves you a ton of space and it couldn't be anymore convenient. These dumbells do come in different shapes and are made from different material.
From what I could see, some have different ways fo switching the weights and the Bowflex one seemed to be a bit easier but either way, they were better than having a bunch of dumbbells for sure. You will have to get used to the length though since they are a bit longer than regular dumbbells but after a while you'll get used to it. It's definitely money well spent.
Bicep Curls
Hammer Curls
Of course it's just not for doing bicep curls. You can do bench pressed, shoulder pressed, bent rows, and all the other things you can do with regular dumbbells.
