The Adopt-A-Vine program completely reverses the concept of the traditional winery. It is a brilliant idea for the wine lovers among us, and the perfect gift for those for whom the grape tolls. Instead of a few bottles or a case, you can actually purchase your own vine and get a label that has your name on it. (If you use aliases, this might be a problem to take up with the management.) Think how classy are the words: From the vineyards of… followed by your name on a bottle you are serving with dinner. It’s sure to at least impress and may even cause a run for autographs. If it doesn’t, you can always offer more wine, and even more after that, until everyone is so drunk it doesn’t matter if they are impressed! There are many vineyards both in Europe and the United States that offer an Adopt-a-Vine program; too many to mention here by name. Generally speaking, they all offer the same thing, more or less. For an annual sum, a “parent” may adopt a vine and will actually receive (among other things) a certificate of adoption. Breathe easy, for this does not mean that you will have to worry about the expense of sending your “adopted child” to college. You can, however, milk (or in this case, wine) him or her for everything he or she is worth! Even though you don’t have to grant a curfew, vaccinate or educate your adopted vine, you will still have to be responsible for it. Adopt-a-Vine is an annual privilege that must be renewed in order to assure continuity. A failure to renew results in your vine being taken away from you and a subsequent adoption by new parents who like to drink too. The Adopt-a-Vine is a great gift for the person who has just about everything. It is a wonderful idea for birthdays, Christmas, retirements, anniversaries, in fact, for any celebration, which can be used as an occasion to clink glasses and drink. In a way, the Adopt-a-Vine is program also like taking an extended course on wine as most memberships provide information not only on the specific vine you have adopted but also on the wine making process itself. Usually, you can visit your vine any time during the period of your adoption. Membership also gains entry into various special winery events such as harvest picking, wine sampling sessions, tours, etc. So is the Adopt-a-Vine program for you? It certainly represents a new and interesting thing to do. Don’t drive down to the winery alone however if you plan to do a lot of “wine sampling”. It is said that there are specially trained policemen hiding behind the bushes who love to issue DUIs, and who are there patiently waiting to serve you!Happy Vino! For more information:http://www.iwantoneofthose.com/adopt-a-vine/index.html
