Adoption-apparently never to old | Budget Day 2009
73Adopt a Pensioner in Australia
Being of pension age myself I noticed with very much interest the segment on the Channel 7 Program "Today Tonight" which highlighted the plight of the single pensioner in Australia.
It has come up with the novel idea of people being able to adopt a Pensioner who only receives a single pension.
I thought to myself, "self, this seems like a great idea, it looks like you are never to old to be adopted"
But then self had another thought, a deep dark thought, why should it be left up to a TV show to bring to the public attention the plight of the pensioner.
Surely the Government of the times Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd . Yes that same Kevin 07 who when elected only last November said he would govern for all Australians. Should perhaps put away the Chinese Dictionary and start looking in his own back yard to see the people that are really hurting.
Oh yes that's right he did promise that pensions would be reviewed some time next year. SAY WHAT. I've heard stories around that some pensioners are actually buying tins of dog food just to get a meal.
22 February 2009
And still it drags on for the Pensioners. Did Mr Rudd think that the hand out before Christmas would be enough tide them over.
There is anecdotal evidence that, large lumps of the handout went overseas, where used to pay down debt , was put in the Bank for a "rainy day" and that the turnover through the Poker Machines went up by a staggering $16 billion.
Now this handout was supposed to get the economy stimulated. I believe that retailers reported a very small increase in Sales, and that was over a peak Christmas spending period.
If they had use their so called "brains" they would have seen it much wiser to give the pensioners a rise of $30 a week in November and it would have worked out about the same expenditure, and the Pensioners would have spent it on their own day to day living expenses. But then again What would I know?
If I had got as stimulated as that, my wife would probably have rung the undertaker to have me embalmed.
I heard on "A Current Affair" the other night that it will only be the Single Pensioners that will recieve any increase in Pension.
If this is the case it would make him and his cohorts Mr. Swann and Ms Acting Prime Minister (Gillard), the most unpopular and meanest people in Australia.
Lady Godiva
November 02, 2008 12:00am
In a swipe at our Politicians a latter-day Lady Godiva strode on horseback into Federation Square today to the applause of pensioners, united in a call to increase government allowances.
Marg Lennon herself a Disabled Pensioner dressed in a skin suit and long blonde wig, said pensioners were doing it tough while politicians enjoyed a lavish lifestyle.
"After all my normal disbursements -- and it's not like I spend my money on sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll -- I've got $45 to live it up on," Ms Lennon said.
"Politicians would spend $45 on an hors d'oeuvres.
"I know people are asking for an extra $100, and that would certainly be a super bonus, but I'd be happy with $60 or $70.
"That means I could buy meat and fresh vegetables that are becoming more and more expensive."
Ms Lennon said that since the 1970s both sides of government had agreed to a formula for pensions that had never been met.
Pensioner Action Group organiser John Davies labelled the Government's one-off payment next month inadequate.
"By the middle of January we'll be back in the hole we are in today," he said.
Mr Davies also criticised the poor turnout for the protest, saying pensioners had to be prepared to stand up and be counted.
There are about 1.2 million aged pensioners in Victoria but less than 60 protesters were at yesterday's protest.
Mr. Davies said "Pensioners have to learn to work together or else nothing is going to change".
A protest in the Main street of Melbourne.
To highlight once more the plight of the Pensioners angry pensioners and a Family First senator Steve Fielding have stripped off and stopped traffic on one of Melbourne's busiest intersections in a protest against a lack of support for seniors in this week's Federal Budget.
Up to 200 elderly people stood at the corner of Swanston and Flinders Streets this morning.
'John', 69, who ran off into the intersection and stripped off to his underpants, said the budget was a "slap in the face" for pensioners. "More needs to be done," he said.
Police tried to coax him away from the intersection but a swarm of other pensioners joined him before officers could stop them.
Another woman stripped down to her bra and longjohns during the protest.
Police then escorted the pensioners back up to the steps of Flinders Street Station after about 15 minutes.
Family First senator Steve Fielding backed the pensioners' campaign, whittling down to a pair of suit trousers. His lithe frame and eager demeanour saw the pants slip somewhat to reveal a very natty pair of boxers.
"We just want a fair go. We're not ready for the scrapheap yet," Grant said as she and Fielding vowed to take the campaign to Canberra. "We just want enough money to live on without taking it out of our savings all the time."
Fielding, who has previously appeared dressed as a soft-drink bottle to promote the notion of better recycling, said that when he heard Grant wasn't going to take her top off in protest, "I thought I'd do it for her".
Update on February 20, 2009
PENSIONERS are furious at Liberal frontbencher Tony Abbott's warning a promised pension rise in the Budget may not be affordable.
Mr Abbott, Opposition families spokesman, said a mooted $35 a week rise to the single aged pension would cost $6 billion a year.
"Obviously many pensioners are doing it tough, but a $35 a week increase is an enormous hit on the revenue," Mr Abbott said.
"I think something like this would need to be considered very carefully and very cautiously, I really do."
Mr Abbott said the "sunny optimism" of the Howard era was no longer, warning that the Rudd Government might have to rethink its promise to lift pensions across the board. What Mr. Abbott did not mention was that the cost of all things that the Pensioner need to buy is still increasing in price,
Prominent Glenroy pensioner Shirley Grant described Mr Abbott's comments as "bulldust". and I would have not been quite so polite. I wonder if Mr Abbott would be prepared to take a pay cut to finance the pensioner increase.
Shirley Grant who has been a long time outspoken campaigner for a better deal for pensioners said the need for a rise in benefits was becoming more and more desperate.
Morrie Mifsud, another champion of pensioner rights who has previously sparred with the Liberal MP, described the comments as "typical of Mr Abbott".
"Luckily he doesn't speak for those who are making the decisions," Mr Mifsud, of the Alliance of Retired Trade Unionists said.
Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull and deputy Warren Truss were both forced to slap Mr Abbott down late yesterday.
However, Mr Abbott remained unrepentant.
"I haven't opposed a pension rise, I'm just questioning whether it is affordable,"
Labour Parties reaction to the Mr. Abbott comment
Families Minister Jenny Macklin declared the Liberals were out of touch with pensioners.
"I think it demonstrates the Liberal Party all along have just been playing politics with pensioners' lives," Ms Macklin said.
The Rudd Government is waiting on the recommendations of an "independent review" examining the adequacy of pensions including payments to carers and other recipients.
It seems strange to me that this "independant review" has been going on for as far back as I can remember, but when the pollies want a rise "abracadabra", it happens as if by magic!!!
Crunch Time for the Government
Update of Pensioners Plight : Sunday 10th May 2009
Next Tuesday 12 th May 2009 is "D" day for the Australian Government. Yes D for Delivery, as in the Budget will be delivered by the Rudd Government.
After all the turmoil of the economic crisis that is engulfing the world Mr Rudd and his labour party cohorts must deliver a budget that will make noone happy. He will break many promises that he made before and since he was elected.
OK I am not unreasonabe to the suggestion that the governments income will be reduced, I think any person with a modicum of common sense will see the logic in that scenario.
What I will not be happy with is any breaking of the promise that was made to the Pensioners to increase their Income.
Surely there must be a bit of Robin Hood or even the return of "the party for the People" in Mr Rudd to take some of the rebates from the more higher paid and spread it around a bit to the less fortunate among us.
I wait with bated breath for the Budget and will keep this Hub updated.

I also wanted to say that your headline is a ripper. I enjoy reading your stuff, it is very enjoyable to read.
Good to be thinking about your fellow Aussies. I also think about veterans in my community because many of them are homeless or very poor. I used to give them money in the past for meals because I felt bad for them, but right now I really cannot afford to do this. There are several really good shelters in the area and I wish people would use these rather than sleeping on the street or behind bus stops.
Actually, given the fact that I've lost all my grandparents, I wouldn't mind adopting a new one.
I wonder what the criteria for that would be....perhaps a small fee involved? Could I like take my pick of the litter, perhaps one that is still house trained? And what if after a time, I discover that my new grandparent isn't living up to my standards...is there a return policy in place? Maybe an exchange program of sorts?
As you can see, there are a lot of questions involved...
I think your hub has nicked the edge of a veritable iceberg...good job :)
I don't have grandparents either, and, what's worse, my children only have one grandad and no lovely grandmas at all. I have friends who are older and who take an interest in my kids, but none of them has offered to be the surrogate grandparent that I'd love them to have. Adopt-a-pensioner is all very well, but it must be a two way street!
Thanks Sweetiepie for your comment . We also have good shelters for the needy and homeless and I understand that things in the mainstream are very tough.
The adoption program I refer to above is aimed more at the single pensioner (the majority of these are female) fiercly independant, living in their own homes, not wanting to be a burden on society and through no fault of their own (super fund companies folding, etc.)have trouble making ends meet.
Thanks Amanda you raise a very valid point. I myself grew up never having known the joys of having grandparents. Needless to say we lavish love and affection on our own 2 grandkids.
One good thing that has come out of this "adopt a pensioner" program is in fact it is a two way street . People are finding that after that adoption takes place the "pensioner" becomes a surigate grandparent to the adoptees kids.
Please remember this program is run by a TV station to highlight the plight of single pensioners.. Last night they highlighted a case of a family adopting a pensioner at the suggestion of their young son.
Dear Spryte, as a grandparent myself I would love to have you as a granddaughter as you appear to have similarities to my own 5 yrs old little Angel. Knows everything, can do everything, can even do hand stands (almost) did I forget anything?.
To answer the questions you raise. 1) No fee required, just log onto website and register. 2)Yes you can take a pick of the litter, but they would probably liked to be called Nan or Pop. 3) and yes you can remove your name from the program.
agvulpes:
Well, unfortunately, you aren't old enough to be my grandpa...but since you only have two sons, you might want a daughter? I know, I know...you have a lovely daughter-in-law already and I wouldn't dream of trying to supplant her position as the mother of your grandchildren (especially Angel who sounds like my little doppelganger)...but you should think about it.
You wouldn't have to send me to college (been there, done that)...I come with a lovely potential son-in-law who has a very good job...and well, the bragging rights are just to die for.
Let me know.
Er, I think I'll take that as a compliment??.
You could be the daughter I've always wanted. Big question is :-
Is the potential son-in-law a doctor or an undertaker, Daddy's getting old you know?
Even better...the potential son-in-law is a network architect. You'll never have to worry about your computer and its security EVER again. He also has some pretty cool toys...I hear men like that.
Cool toys yeaaa(clap) (clap) Your in!!
Oh Spryte I just had another thought, how about a package deal with Yourself and Shadesbreath. Now as they say in the classics "I'd like to see that"
LOL! Umm...hmmm. Well I guess we'd have to ask Shade how he feels about that. I've always wanted a little brother...
A little brother you say. Hmmmm I don't know how Shade would go being bossed around by big sis????
I don't know if I would be linguisticly adequate to communicate with him (nudge nudge) you have a way with words ,you ax him?, go on. (dare ya)
Geesh! And I thought I was a trouble maker! See...if you were my "Dad" I could blame it on genetics. Nope...not my fault. I got it from Dad's side of the family. Maybe we'll just get lucky and he'll see your hub?
You just never know do you I believe some of my ancestors migrated to america many many moons ago.
Me a trouble maker? Whereever did you get that idea,I'm a devout coward and a very fast runner.
I doubt if old Shadecloth would deign to cast his erudite eyesballs on the verbal trash that I right?
Sorry to hear about the flue. When I have that sort of problem I use "garlic, horseradish+vit c " hope your better soon Love dad
LOL! I don't have the flue, flu or flew.. :P Okay, so I didn't sleep very well last night and I'm rather punchy...but I wasn't sick, I just couldn't get my brain to shut up. Sometimes it does that...
Erudite eyeballs? Wow... I just might have to drop a clue that perhaps he should come by here if only to see THAT. :) You think his ego is tough to deal with now...just wait til he learns he has perspicacious pupils, intellectual irises...and clever corneas....
:)
You sure your not Angel, you little doppelganger you?
How does ones brain shut up? would it depend on whether you had roll up or pull down doors fitted.
You had me reaching for the Websters before I approved. I just love clever corneas. I had them for tea last night . What dear? Ohhhh that was corn ears, sorry not hearing too well these days.
Anyones welcome in our house we have had extra wide doors fitted.
It's my own fault about the brain thing...I write too close to going to bed and as a result my brain is still firing on all cylinders when the rest of me has declared an end to the day.
I do have a way of shutting it up though..and perhaps I should write a hub on that some day. It doesn't work for everyone, but my sister tried it and modified it to her own use and it then worked for her too. You basically have to bore your brain... :) Sounds interesting, huh?
My wife must have met your sister, she gets off to sleep very quickly. (boom boom)
Seriously though, I hear where your coming from, and over the years I have developed my own brain boring pattern (sounds gory dont it) and seems to work OK. Must compare notes one day???? Would definitely make a great Hub subject, as I think especially these days more people have the problem.
We could..what's the word...collaborate! Does your involve rhymes?
Is that what they call it these days, I can colaborate as good as the next guy. Phew I got all hot and bothered there for a second, I thought you said rhythms.
No not rhymes, clouds. But whatever turns you on I'm ambidextrous.
Oh...you use that floating on a cloud imagery? Anyway...it's late and I'm going to bed. Maybe I'll think of clouds...and thinks that rhyme with clouds. :)
That will work!
No not exactly.
let me know?
Sweet dreams dear Spryte.
clouds, crowds even the rhyme sounds busy ! I have the same problem Spryte - I seriously have to tell my brain to shut up! love the hub agvulpes - we are sort of surrogate grandparents to a little girl (10) who lives in our town and whose parents are going through divorce. It is very rewarding and we love her. I never had a daughter so I really like the girl thing, plus I didn't have grandparents or even a dad so I say do whatever you can to help make the love go around.
here are some names for k07, k747(the traveller), the milky bar kid(remember the ad with young "snowy") and kevin dud not sure where this one has come from maybe something to do with your hub) not respectful at all but quite funny!
Hi ajcor ,it sure seems that turning the brain off at sleep time is a common problem.
Come up with a drug free fix and you'll make your fortune?
I wrote this hub before ko7 gained his rep for travelling. But here's another one for you. Picture him every time you seem him as Kevin Fudd as in Elmer Fudd >and Wayne Swann as Daffy Duck, works for me how about you? How's that for respect!:(0
wicked!!!!
Wicked yes ! I think they need some prodding to become more in touch with reallity in the way they do things. The way they handled this bank thing is a right cock up, but of course they won't admit that it was a mistake. It was obvious to us what was going to happen we just thought as usual there would be something in the fine print, but this time there wasn't. So just blame every one else and run around like Elmer Fudd and Daffy Duck!
Ag, what a horrible thing to happen. I would like to sing up, I miss my grandparents dearly and my children have never really had granparents. I think everyone should have grandparents to love and be loved by.
Seriously this is a great hub Agvulpes. I only really knew my wonderful Grandmother on my Mum's side, both of my Grandfathers were dead before I was born, and my Dad's Mum I only met once, and she was not very loving to say the least!!
I know this is may be a controversial comment, but it annoys me the way so much focus is placed on children's charities, and the elderly seem to be forgotten, even though they fought wars for us and often suffer terribly due to insufficient income in their later years. This is not to say children's charities should not be supported, they should, but more largescale fundraisers should be held for the elderly than are currently.
Thanks Gwendy and misty.
I never actually knew my grandparents on either side because my mum and dad emigrated from England way before I was born. btw I'm the last of 11 children, and call myself a dinky die Aussie.
We looked after my wifes Mum and Dad up until they both passed away 10 years apart so we do know what the older people need, and as you say Misty , the elderly need just as much and in my opinion probably more attention than children. They are just as vulnerable as kids, and because they are usually recieving some sort of pension or have valuable assets, they are preyed on by unscrupulous people!
Absolutely, and it is so horrible for anyone to take advantage of an elderly person, disgusting in fact.
In the United States, there's no "adoption" program like you're talking about. I wish there was, though. It would really help out the people who are getting up there in years. We have another program, though. It's called "Foster Grandparents". Older people can sign up to mentor children and generally be an adoptive grandparent to them. It's company and a chance to be around little ones for the older people, and the children get to experience what it means to have a grandparent.
Misty we are just going through a trial here of a 30 yr old man (a use the term loosely) He broke into a 82 yr old ladies house (she lived alone) 6 times in about 12 months to steal food and money. The last time he broke in he beat her that bad she went into hospital. About a week after leaving hospital she unfortunately passed away. (due to supposedly unrelated reasons) The debate now is whether to charge him with murder?
Thanks for dropping in KT, I think thats a terrific idea for both the kids and the older people. I always have wanted to be a granddad but until it actually happened about 6 years ago I did not appreciate the bond that a grandparent can have with their grandchildren! Its an entirely different love from the love that a husband has for his wife.
I hope they do charge him with Murder, as the stress this caused the poor women was most likely a contributing factor.
LOL @ Erudite Eyeballs, and no, I wouldn't let Spryte tell me what to do.
I know I'm too late to be taken seriously on this, but, I just want to clarify something: I read books when I have time to read. I feel guilty a lot for not putting in time reading the hubs of people who are so meaningful to my experience on hubpages fast enough to keep up. But I get there. Slowly. But, if I have an hour to read and I know it, I'm taking Henry James or Cormac McCarthy over HubPages, and I confess to doing so purely selfishly. Those guys (and writers like them) are godlike and every moment spent reading them improves us as writers, so, I go there when I can in hopes of some of the great geniuses rubbing off on me somehow. Which just means I show up late to the hubs of my friends, but, I will get there. (Funny thing is, I swear I read this and responded... see fan mail on this... but, well, anyway. lol).
/cheers man.
Shades thanks for the comment. ( I think). You were being nice weren't you?
I have a small confession to make. I have not read a fiction book for about 20 years, and strangely enough I had no interest in being a writer before I joined Hubpages and met you guys.
Well, I was trying to be nice. If you're not sure, then perhaps I didn't pull it off very well, lol. And writing is fun. I can't imagine not reading a good fiction novel. Fiction (real fiction not fantasy and sci-fi and the other genres; I admit that willingly) is the window to humanity as it exists in any given moment in time and, if its really good, as it exists and has existed throughout time. I would give up my computer and t.v. before I'd give up good fiction.
Shades (touche) I was trying to be funny, I appear to have missed the mark .LOL!
You may have started to rekindle my desire to read, maybe you can suggest a novel,or author. I like a good mystery.
Nothing too long mind, my concentration span is not that good these days.
I tend to look at music as 'the window to humanity' as you so aptly commented!
Although I do see your point about fiction, I just have not thought about it in that regard!
Aha! I was wondering what was going on in here and I see that the slow communication technique NEARLY worked. But I've caught you both now...mhahhahhha!
Sorry...too much caffeine today.
Luckily, I have not had to sacrifice one for the other...but then again, my lifestyle is probably way different from the two of you. (oh...we're talking reading books btw...keep up). It is rather nice though at times that you read the hubs later rather than right away since it usually experiences a mild resurrection at that point.
Oh...and I'd never DREAM of telling Shades what to do. He's not the type of man you give orders to...you have to lure him in and be patient. :)
spryte I was young an naive when I made that comment about Shades I know full well now that Shades is his own man. If I am reading Shades correctly I feel that he like myself enjoys the "challenge" (I'm sure there is a better word, this one is too confrontational) of being "lured" by the opposite sex!
btw: "It is rather nice though at times that you read the hubs later rather than right away since it usually experiences a mild resurrection at that point."
did not understand this, could you please enlighten me further thankyou?
Certainly!
We're like locusts...the group of us. We land on a hub and start blah blah blahing and it gains popularity. But then we move on as new hubs are published and the previous one falls out of the public eye. Then along comes Shadesbreath and reads it...which of course means having to come back and counter-comment which then brings back the whole gang of locusts....and it drives the hub back up in popularity. Does that make sense?
Yes that makes a lot of sense, the only thing is locusts destroy things, what we are doing is actually building on things , more like bees in a bee hive perhaps?
So do you know if the amount of comments on a Hub is considered by Google in its SEO.?
Not a clue...to be honest, I write to write and not with any expectation of making anything off it. Except for joining adsense, the rest doesn't interest me in the least. Or...makes my head boggle. :)
Hmm...you are right. We aren't exactly locusts...but we are rather pesky. What's a pest that actually does some good? Bees are too purposeful. Maybe picnic ants?
Sorry I was distracted by the girls on your Hub (go figure).
Picnic ants, aren't they a bit too regimented?
Hmmm....
Well we are rather orderly aren't we? But then again, perhaps ants are mischievous enough. Are there any bugs that could be considered mischievous?
Well we could invent our own species!
Something like "Hubbuggers"??? P-[)
Ag, I love hubbuggers, I think it's great!
Why not...we can be hubjacking hubbuggers :)
we should write a collaborative hub on it, like the case of the hubjacking hubbuggers.
Sort of like the 12 Hubateers. One for all, all for one!
Ok fellow hubbuggers who is the lucky person today?
I still have to eat dinner...so might be a bit for me.
I only have a few minutes before world series of poker ag, I will be back on later though. Sorry.
I'm doing lunch, catch ya!
Bye Ag, sorry. I promise to return, have a good lunch.
I'm gonna go grab dinner :) will see you all back her later, I'm sure!
Hey Ag, I made it back. Sorry I was gone for so long.
WB Gwendy...I'm just checking out a new hubbers hubs...so far all have been copied from other people's website without credit to the original author.
Ag, where did you go?
Hi Gmom sprytely one how on earth did you pick that up?
I'm pushin' buttons here like you wouldn't believe just trying to keep up! Its nearly 100 degrees here!
you really are a sly fox, one minute here the next gone.
Hi G-mom, Spryte and Ag. Ag, what does your comment "So whois I'll deny when you let us know" mean?
it's been in the 50's and 60's here. I miss summer already.
He was wondering who Spryte was policing so he could help.
Hi MM you were quick, must have your cape on today. we were just talking about a new hub with copied content.
I won't advertise it here OK
Spryte has been a one-woman Hubpolice force. She's flagged like 6 or 7 hubs by a hubber named Gennendah.
Gunnedah Girl - MM picked up on my strange reading habits. She's already been reported though and SwPie has flagged her.
Damn though...the recipe sources are hard to find. :)
Must confess I'm kinda bummed. I was getting excited about being a pet foster mom and reading about Britney, Justin and Madonna (juicy, juicy).
I think CR, must have had the shower party without us. I am disappointed.
Question for anyone. Pardon my ignorance how do you know if a sites been flagged?
If one were so inclined, couldn't you copy an article and change just a bit here and there? I mean, wholesale copying is just lazy IMO. I mean just change the title and a few key things. Not that I would ever do that. I sometimes wish I had a more criminal, devious mind. I'd probably have a lot more money. But you can't put a price on self-respect, right?
right MM.
MM you are so right. don't they teach people how to be origonal these days?
Maybe because she's newby she might think that is ok, and just needs a kick up the bum to set it straight!
I've read tons of articles for research, pulled a few sections, reworded them...but always still referred back to the original article as my source of information even if I'd taken the liberty of rewriting most of it. :)
Found the food ones...took a bit, but they all come from the same source. Find one...find them all.
I checked to see if those hubs are "flagged" in some identifiable way. They don't show up with anything like a "giant X" or something on them. But this particular hubber joined 4 hours ago and has already posted multiple hubs. Thank goodness for eagle-eye Spryte.
So, have we lost Spryte now? I get that it's 100 degrees in Ag-land and 50-60 where you are, G-mom. Me, I'm wishing it would stay cooler and stay cooler. I love Fall. Fave season.
Could be CR is busy installing his water heater. Everyone still got their soap on a rope and rubber duckies at the ready?
Please someone before I do something I shouldn't answer my question about flagging?
Ag, I am not sure about the flagging thing.
MM, I've got my shower items at the ready.
No! Don't!! I want to see Ag do something he shouldn't! This could be fun! What will you do??? Something really naughty? Evil? Illegal? Will you go and plagiarize and article just to see it get flagged???
MM my favorite season is Autumn as well, just something about it isn't there?
btw ducks soap on rope ready !
LOL, I hope not ag, I don't ant to see you get into trouble but I guess for entertainment value it might be worth it.
Hi all - agvulpes - I would like to know the answer to flagging question also! cheers
Somehow, I knew you'd be a fall guy, Ag:-). You and I seem to be quite the kindred spirits, aren't we?
What's the question?
*reads back*
Oh!
If you flag it...via that little button, I don't think the average reader can see it. Probably because the hub mgmnt wants to investigate before making a call. But I'm so darn anal retentive about ppl taking credit for other ppl's work that you might occasionally see it in the comment section?
MM I do believe your imagination is running wild. What would you have me do. I already have a soapy paw stuck in my mouth. How do you expect me to get over to Chris's shower party?
I am begining to wonder if the party has been cancelled.
Hi Annie how are you today.
Nawww CR is probably sound asleep dreaming of hot water and rubber duckies.
Man, my pills are kicking in a little faster than usuall tonight, I think it must be from the stress these last few weeks finally catching up with me.
or rubber dolls.
spryte can you tell us if you can tell if a hub has been flagged?
Is Chris OK?
Spryte: The question is how do you know when a hub has been flagged? If you visit the hub does it have some sign? Does it get taken down?
PP -- Of course my imagination is running wild! It's that time of night!!! But you are the one who started it. You said, "Please someone before I do something I shouldn't answer my question about flagging?" What did YOU have in mind when you wrote "do someting I shouldn't"???
I am not sure Ag, I haven't seen much of him today and am getting a little concerned. He's been pretty stressed out lately, but doesn't seem to talk about it too much, he is kind of a private guy and he is alway trying to give help and support to others and forgetting himself.
Ag, MM - See above, I added it to my response. I've flagged all but 2 of her hubs so far, but only left comments on about 6 or 7 of them. However, I did report her to SwPie...so I think she'll be flagged as a writer too. Not sure how long it takes for a response...but I strongly feel this hubber and hubs won't be here tomorrow.
And I'm sure Christoph is fine. Knowing him, he probably thinks it's better not to be here than to be here and have an idiot like me point out that I could tell he was out of sorts. I should learn to just keep my observations to myself.
Now MM as my older brother used to say "leave em guessin'
Using your imagination is half the fun, no?
Now I might have been going to ........!
Chris was alive and well and actually getting close to getting hot water this morning. Haven't seen anything from him since then. Also noticeably missing in action are Shadesbreath and Countrywomen (she may be away or sick). Misha's out and about. Constant Walker was active earlier. Haven't see any comments from Sixty. Misty must be getting her beauty rest.
aww, the suspense.
Hi agvulpes - I am really fine as my new computer tower (which has been on order with Retravision for about 6 weeks) will finally arrive tomorrow! It has been a long wait but not as bad as Christoph's water heater and printer problem! At least I could shower. Thanks for asking - I just looked at gunnedah girl's profile and she has a score of only 3 for all her efforts so maybe that is the way the hubpages' team reward copying. cheers.
Maybe he decxided to invite other friends. I also noticed that shades has been MIA too. Misty probably getting her beauty sleep, (like she needs any.)
spryte thanks I read the comment before you added.
gmom, the waiting is three quarters of the fun.
Sixty is about due to turn up any time soon.
G-mom, you pills are kicking in? Mine too. Think it's going to be an early night for this Mom. Hope Chris turns up or maybe someone who knows him well can send him a personal email (?).
Good night all. Nice to end my evening with my imagination revved up (you're right there, Ag). Makes for some good dreams, I'm hopin. Ciao, bellas and bello.

Adieu, Adieu...until the morrow :) I'm heading to bed as well while there is no snoring coming from the master bedroom. :)
I will be going shortly afte I eat my bowl of Apple jacks.
Sweet dreams Spryte, dear friend!
Ladies I have enjoyed your company, but the order of the day has kicked in and I must go and cook a barbie.
Gmom how rude of me I just noticed you have not finished your Applejacks, what are applejacks?
gmom - what is an applejack?
Ag, thanks for your great company as always, Sweet dreams to you tonight mate.
Annie you don't know either?
Don't go gmom!
AJ, it is a cereal that tastes like apples and cinnamon, very good. One of my favorites. I usually like to have something sweet before I go to bed, I know it is a bad diet thing to do, but I can't help myself.
Ag, I thought you were leaving also.
I never go and leave a lady sitting on her own, just the way I was raised!
I just had to know about the applejack, I thought it was a pancake?
thanks Gmom - I looked up wiki and it said that Applejack is a strong alcoholic beverage produced from apples, or it could be An American breakfast cereal known as Apple Jacks. but as I thought you said "bowl of" decided it couldn't be the beverage but must be the cereal! cheers and thanks for the explanation.Sounds quite nice.Enjoy your barbie agvulpes
Aj, your welcome. and yes it is nice, not my favorite cereal but still pretty good.
Ag, so are you leaving?
I'm not in any hurry my son has taken over the barbie.

Perfect timing swmbo has just told me my meal is on the table getting cold.
So ladies you can call me what you like, just don't call me late for tea!
Goodnight sleep tight and pleasant dreams!
LOL! Gunnedah Girl had denied all comments left by myself and you MM...and published 4 more (probably stolen) articles. I'm getting ready for work atm, so don't have time to check them out. I sure hope she gets the boot today.
My son has only 2 grandparents, my parents, fortunately very healthy and 60-ish. My OH's parents died in their early 50s when OH was 26, and his brother 19.
OH's parents' best friends have decided to become Grandma and Grandpa. They live in America, though, so we don't see them very often, sadly.
My uncle had an extraordinary line of Grannies. When he was born, and until he was 4 years old, he had a mother, her mother, her mother, and her mother, so he had a great-great-grandmother. My mother had a great-grandmother until she was 11, and I had a great-granny until I was 5.
G'day LondonGirl, your son is a very lucky boy indeed to have healthy grandparents. Does he get to play with them often?
Your OH was unfortunate to lose his folks at such a young age.
My wife and I get a tremendous amount of joy out of being grandparents. The g/kids call us Oma and Opa in honor of old friends we had in SA.
My g/kids had a great/granny just up till last year, until she sadly passed away.
Thanks for dropping by.
He does indeed. Over the course of a year, we stay with them 2-3 weeks, and they only live 6 miles away (and my Dad works 300 yards from our flat) so we see a lot of them. My mother was here today, for dinner, for example.
Hey, that is fantastic, are you actually living in London, my parents migrated from there about 1920 something, just after WW 1 and bought their family of 3 kids I think from memory, and settled in Melbourne. (let me know by email if you want to stay private).
We live on a 2 acre property with all of our family. (2 sons, 1 d/law, 2 g/kids , 2dogs + wild rabbits, foxes&birds). We all have our seperate living areas?
I saw your update ag, it will be a scary budget this time in my view, we owe so much money I fear it will bite deep on Tuesday.
Senator Bob Brown commenting on Pensioner plight

Hell yes! I would like to comment alright. You have hit the nail on the head.
I saw the today tonight segment. I too am getting around that age, and I am well over ko7 offering to deliver peanuts NEXT year.. Kevin and the minister for everything have been long on rhetoric and short on caring in my view, and the proposed rise in the aged pension will only mean eating better dog food for many single pensioners.
It is a national disgrace that we do not look after the venerable.
