What is adsense?

Google adsense is a way that owners of websites, blogs, or other internet pages can display relevant ads on their pages. These ads should support the content of the page and they are available as banners, horizontal and vertical buttons and a variety of other different formats. The ads can be pay per click or pay per thousand hits to your site. Adsense pays out at $100 through check.

Adsense Tips

I have decided to compile a list of useful tips for those that are new to adsense.

  1. Read the terms of service of google and follow the rules, ie no fraudlent clicking such as clicking on your own ads or asking others to click on them. Google will find out and your account will be suspended.
  2. Only display three sets of ads on your page. These ads must also be different formats, for example you can have one link list, one banner and one small rectangle.
  3. Make sure your content is very specific, this way you will get relevant ads, and if your readers wish to find out more about the topic they will click the ads. There is no point in having a website or blog on a multitude of topics as then the ads will be less specific and unlikely to get any clicks.
  4. Make your ads the same colour as your text. People do not like clicking on ads so it is best to make the ads appear as if they are part of your writing.
  5. The positioning and size of your ads is very important also. There is no point in having a tiny rectangle stuck in amongst several hundred words of text, it will never get seen. Generally I have a large banner at the top of my page with ads and a vertical link list of ads down the left hand side. I also put ads below my last blog post. This way my ads are easiy seen.
  6. Put a google search bar on your page. This is an additional way to earn through adsense, and lets your visitors search your page or else google as a whole. If they click on any of the ads generated by the search this too earns you a small amount of money.
  7. Have many websites, blog and internet pages, and link them to each other. The more places you display adsense the more chance you have of making some decent money from it.
  8. Get traffic to your page. There is absolutely no point in following all the above tips if your site gets no visitors. No visitors represents no clicks which means no earnings. Therefore you should create a useful site with many tags and submit it to article directories and places that give you backlinks to increase the PR of your site. The more visitors you get, the more clicks you will get and the higher your earnings.
