Adsense and Buzz

So you want to make a bit of money, maybe more than a bit of money from your blog. The easiest way is with Adsense, those little ads by Google Ads you see on most sites. You can sign up and see if they think you worthy and then publish these ads on your Buzz Blog. Now there is a small science to this. The ads that appear on your site are related to what you are blogging about. The problem comes when you a current events Buzz Blogger- you change topics everyday and blog about things that have very little advertising value. The high dollar adsense ads that you want on your site will only appear there if you talk about a high dollar adwords topic. So, if you blog about the new season of Weeds, you might get a lot of hits, but they may not be too interested in clicking on your adsense ads for Elvis Presley ringtones from that post you wrote last week.

But that is the nature of the game. You need to have three types of posts on your main page at all times. One about a Google Trend topic, one about your personal interests-whatever they may be, and one that features good Adsense keywords. Why include the one that is just about your interests? Why did you start this blog? Just to make a few dollars? That is not a good reason to start anything. And it is not enough of a reason for most people to keep blogging, which takes a lot more effort than they realize. So you have to keep talking about the things that interest you. If they interest you, chances are good they interest someone else as well.

Looking at Google Trends or one of the other Hot Topic sites will help you find a topic that people are searching for. You want to find a topic that has legs, which means one that people will still be searching for in the days, weeks, and months ahead. People never seem to tire of Britney Spears, for example. One key is to write at least one new post a day. Writing a Buzz Blog calls for good writing, but you also need to add good keywords. One way is to just Google High Dollar Keywords, or Good Keywords, or Most Profitiable Keywords and then make a note of the ones that you like. Don't bother paying for the highest paying keywords, not until you have ten thousand hits a day and you have a lot of people that are dying to click on something. Once you find a couple of lists of keywords, sort through them and find ones that you feel you can write a blog post about. I have not written anything about Asbestoes Cancer, even though that is often a Top Paying keyword. I know nothing about it, and don't want to know anything about it. But I have an opinion on teeth whitening, Rolex watches, Alaskain Crusies, and Debt Consolidation, no personal experience, but I do have an opinion. Plug in the top ten paying keywords and let the ads start appearing on your blog. It's a much better feeling to make twenty cents a click than it is to make three cents a click.

The Curious Incident of Vanessa Anne Hudgens Naked in a Photo

A small lesson in SEO, the popular media, and nudity on the web. I was trolling Google Trends, as is my wont, when I found a story about a Naked Vanessa Anne Hudgens photo. This photo seemed to be Vanessa Anne Hudgen Naked in a bathroom, but it was really just a dirty hotel room. I had never heard of Vanessa Anne Hudgens, nor had I watched Disney's High School Musical, or High School Musical Two, which set a number of ratings records for cable TV. But I am a guy and a Naked Vanessa Anne Hudgens is as good as a Naked Anyone-Who-Is-A-Young-Woman. So I whipped up a post about Vanessa Anne Hudgens Naked in a Photo.

I had been trying to get traffic to my blog, as most people with blogs like to see those big numbers on their stat counters. That first day I got 3500 hits for the post titled Vanessa Anne Hudgens Naked in a Photo. It was a bit of good luck and a bit of SEO that worked for me. I could have just posted the picture and maybe the numbers would have been good. But I wrote a fairly long post, mentioning a Naked Vanessa Anne Hudgens as often I could. The fact that the title was Vanessa Anne Hudgens Naked was what really did the trick-but if it had not had a keyword rich post to go with it, I don't think I would have gotten as high a rating as I did. I didn't think of the Vanessa Anne Hudgens naked in a bathroom, but I did write about her being naked in a dirty hotel room, which seemed to be close enough. The point of all this is that when someone Googled any of a large number of combinations of the words Naked and Vanessa Anne Hudgens, my blog post was near the top and at one point, was number one and two. (I had submitted the story to Digg and Netscape and Newsvine, so those stories showed up as well as my main post.)

I could have tweaked the post a bit and gotten more hits and kept the number one spot, but to be honest I find the whole thing a bit embarrassing. I did post the naked picture of Vanessa Anne Hudgens, but it was Photoshopped in a couple of places. I left a link to Photobucket, which had a copy of the image in all its tacky glory.I have a couple of small groups of Adsense ads at the top of the page. In a matter of hours these were all Adsense ads about Vanessa Anne Hudgens.

The small trickle of money from those ads is a lot more than the small trickle before the article. I did nothing really different than I do on any other Trend Post, I just happen to hit on a topic that was wildly searched for, and would continue to be wildly searched for some time to come. Right before this I had found out that using the word Topless or Nude was a good draw, but I was not sure that there would be any Adsense money to go with a photo of Heidi Klume and a riding crop. I am still not sure there is much money there. But I have made a steady few dollars a day with Vanessa Anne Hudgens Naked and as of right now, two weeks later, I'm still getting over a thousand hits a day.

There were hints that this was going to be a good story with legs, as there were a lot of combinations of the keywords on Google Trends the day the story broke. But I'll be honest, I don't know why naked photos of Vanessa Anne Hudgens are so popular.

5 Free and Easy Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Blog

1) Go to one of Buzz sites and write a Blog Post about a Top Ten Subject. Make the post at least three hundred words. Use the same wording in the Blog Post Title as the Google Trend Topic if you want to get listed near the top in Google Trends.

2) When you find a topic you want to blog about, go to one of the Keyword Tools and find the most expensive keywords for that subject. On the Google Adwords Keyword Tool, click on Choose data to display: Cost and Ad Position Estimates and then enter 100.00 in How much would you be willing to pay per click (Max CPC) space. Click on Get More Keywords and click on Estimate Average Cost twice to get the highest price on top. Use the top ten responses in your Blog Post.

3) Open a free account at Digg, Netscape, and Reddit and submit your blog post to each. This involves copying the URL of your post and pasting it into the URL space at the News Site, then writing a short description of your Blog Post. Use those good Keywords you just searched for in the Keywords line.

4) Follow in the footsteps of Sports Illustrated, People, and Maxium Magazines. Find a picture of a semi-nude movie star and post it on your blog. Then write a Blog Post of at least three words. You can talk about how desperate some people are for traffic that they will post pictures of semi-nude stars to get it. Most sexy pictures are to promote a movie or a product anyway, so write about the movie or the product.

5) Get a Tracker, like eXtreme Tracker, and look at the Last Twenty Searches box on a regular basis. If you are getting a lot of traffic from a topic you only wrote one post about, you should write a follow-up post. Trackers tell you how people are finding your blog and you can use that data to make sure they keep finding it.

  • Starbucks Original Logo

In the too much time on their hands file we find a group of people offended by the mermaid on Starbucks Original Logo-which it is now using on its Pike Place Coffee. A man in San Diego has described the Starbucks Logo cup as 'a naked woman on it with her legs spread like a prostitute.' Of course the regular Starbucks Logo features a stylized version of the same image, cropped a bit closer and looking a lot more Art Deco than Old World. The Original Starbucks logo was based on an old 16 Century Norse woodcut. Starbuck is a character from the novel Moby Dick-and I don't recall any mermaids showing up the book. Of course, putting a old print of a whale hunt would not have gone over too well either. The Original Starbucks Logo has been featured in a lot travel stories, as it is proudly displayed in the window of the Original Starbucks store. So I'm sure they have received a lot of comments from people who like the old world logo. I would have to have been at sea a really long time to find this mermaid erotic. Of course, I have heard that sailors though Manatees were mermaids-have you ever seen a manatee? Most of the Christians I met in my work are nice enough people who don't dress like it's 1900 and don't seem to be fringe wackos who worry about stuff like mermaid nudity on Starbucks logos. Some of them help run homeless shelters. A lot of them like to say things like Have a Blessed Day-but are otherwise perfectly normal. The Starbucks Logo story is just some group of nobodies wanting to get a little attention-and help promote the notion that all Christians are flaming idiots. 8 hours ago

  • Claus Porto Soaps

"These creamy, fragrant, gorgeously wrapped soaps from Portugal now come in small discs. Give them to a hostess, who can bestow them on her lucky guests." —Oprah Claus Porto Soaps are one of Oprah's "Favorite Things" To ensure lasting, consistent fragrance and ultra creamy lather, these Claus Porto soaps are finely milled eight times. Each Claus Porto soap is molded and pressed by hand, then aged in an old-fashioned drying room, resulting in a denser, longer-lasting bar. Citron verbena is particularly popular with men (but women like it, too!). Lafco's Claus Porto collection redefines bathroom chic. These oversized Claus Porto soaps and luxurious bath foams and salts are renowned for their gorgeous, brightly colored, art deco wrappings. Each of the eight Claus Porto motifs corresponds to a scent and was inspired by one-of-a-kind vintage prints discovered in a Portuguese printing houseEstablished in 1887 in Porto, Portugal, the Ach Brito Company is the oldest family owned soap and perfume manufacturer in Portugal. Until the 1960's Ach Brito specialized in producing soaps and perfumes for the wealthiest of Porto's merchant families. The Claus Porto products were made and packaged specifically for certain families. The bath products produced in this factory are still made today, using the same turn of the century methods and techniques. Amazon.com Widgets 27 hours ago

  • The Balanced Brain

The Balanced Brain Test is not exactly new, these kinds of tests have been around in one form or another for years. We all like the idea that we can spend forty-five seconds and discover if our brain is balanced by the choices that we make. The Balanced Brain Test on Friday's Law has a list of words and phrases-critical, nurturing, concise and the like. You pick fifteen of these words and hit the submit button to see how balanced your brain is at the moment you took the test.My brain is balanced, thank you very much-though it might be argued that this proves the balanced brain test is imperfect. The score for the balanced brain test falls into three broad areas-Frontal Lobe, Upper Cerebral Cortex, and Temporal Lobe. I scored two 5s and a 7, though this appears to be a bit on the low side, it falls withing the normal range. The point of this balanced brain silliness is to become normal, or to stay normal if your there already. Well, who wants to be normal? We all want to be above average like the kids in Lake Wobegon-though I'm sure they all have perfectly balanced brains. Also on the website are Friday's Laws, which might also be called The Bleeding Obvious:1.Life is difficult.2.Perception is reality.3.Change is the toughest thing a human being can do.4.You can never change another human being; you can only change yourself. Once you change, they change, but you cannot change them.5.I am responsible for everything I do and say. I am not responsible for your response.6.The future and the past are seldom as good or as bad as we anticipate or remember.7.Nobody has a squeaky-clean psyche.8.The only thing that lasts forever is...Now.I was a huge fan of Pinky and The Brain-though it is clear that these two lab mice did not have very balanced brains at all. 30 hours ago
