Advanced Push Up Routine

Push-ups are great a great exercise to do. Good for a bit of upper body strength and your arms. Now most people stick to pretty much the one way of doing push-ups. What happens though when you have mastered the "traditional" push-up routine. Well you need to spice it up. This hub has the steps for a more advanced push-up routine.

How to do an avanced push up routine

1. Once you get fairly good at the push-up you might find yourself needing more. It's time to jazz up your routine! To help you develop more strength, try doing the diamond push-up: Bring your hand position to middle of chest with your index fingers and thumbs touching together, which forms a 'diamond' shape. Now do the push-up as you normally would. You will notice your reps will drop down, since more emphasis is put on your triceps, which is a smaller muscle than your chest. This is good! It will build strength in your weaker muscle.

2. You can make the same exercise even more intense by using a small medicine ball. Do the same position with hands on top of the ball. You will notice when you do the push-up it is harder to balance. It makes you work your core stabilization muscles as well.

3. Another great version of the push-up is to do them not on your hands as usual, but to form a fist 1st , and do them that way.It will build great wrist strength as well. You can also do them on your finger tips, which will strengthen both your fingers and your wrists. Bruce Lee was said to have performed them for high reps on just his 'pinky' fingers and thumbs! Amazing!

4. Mix up your workout with the above exercises, and keep your body in 'shock', since the body adjust to about anything. Once in awhile, start your workout doing just the regular push-up and see if you feel more strength and endurance forming from your new routines. Enjoy the newfound results! As you get stronger and build more endurance, you can move up to the advanced level exercises
