Ask Susan Peters Dog Food Review

Read the labels! This formula rated much better than the cat food of this brand. Loads of rice in this product. It would be much cheaper to feed a bag of rice to your dog. This product is nearly 75% rice. I don't know how this dog food sells for but I'd say it isn't worth more than $1.00.

I adjusted the score for this review due to the high % of rice used in this product. One of my readers caught my mistake in the ratings of this product. I also don't care for the use of "Natural Flavor". Natural Flavor ususally means use of manure or other flavoring. "Natural Flavor" of what? Thanks Marianna.

Lalasmama,

Given my current rating system this product did much better than many out there but given my personal choice I wouldn't look to this one to feed my pet. The only thing I would feed out be a pet food which rates a simple 10/10.

I devised this rating system so people could remember it and use it in the stores when they purchase food for their pets. I agree there should be more considerations for a great dog or cat food.

Thanks for helping pass on the word and help educate the consumer.

Susan

Wow, I am looking at these ratings trying to figure out which food to give my best friends and this one recieved a high rating It looks terrible from reading the label. The first ingredients are all carbs and fillers. Everything you have said in the ratings, like The Taste of the Wild, should not have carbs. You said dogs are meat eaters. So...why would you rate this food like you did? I am very courious.

Marinna,

My concern is not so much with the carbs but with the grains themselves. Corn, Wheat, and Soy build toxins in a cat and dog's body. When the toxin level gets high enough the pet's coat changes in condition (scratching, dry skin, oily gunk forms), the feet become sore, ulcerrated, and arthritic (paw licking), moles on the body begin to form, the kidneys become inflamed (showing humps at the hips) and the liver becomes enlarged.

I am going to adjust this review by taking an extra point off for the use of rice (the second ingredient) due to the type of rice. I don't like to see rice used in pet foods but I don't feel like all rice is designed to kill our pets.

If I were to write a full review, evaluating every ingredient, I would score most of the foods much lower. You are right in following the Atkins plan with the pets! I'd never really thought of the reviews in an Atkins thinking mode. I tried to write a simple review plan so folks could remember the basics when they were at the store selecting the food.

Marianna, thanks for your help!

Susan
