Advantage for Cats
I think I'm in danger of becoming obsessed with my cat's flea treatment but the thing is it's important. It hardly seems fair to only write about the number one selling; Frontline Cat Flea Treatment. So this is how the next best selling cat flea treatment looks.
First of all, I should admit my surprise that Advantage for Cats really is a very different product. It is made from different ingredients and destroys different pests. Call me cynical but I had assumed all cat flea medicine would be the same!

What's the Advantage for Cats?
Sorry about the pun! Advantage for cats has the advantage of speed. This is a really fast acting flea treatment. In fact, the makers say it will destroy fleas within 20 minutes of being applied! Any fleas who subsequently jump onto your cat are killed within an hour and actually stop feeding within five minutes of contact with this medication.
So, the bonus of using this product is that it is speedy. But the maker's only guarantee 98-100% of fleas being killed within 12 hours. Whether 12 hours or 24 (as with Frontline) makes that much difference I'm not convinced. But still, you cannot deny it is fast acting!
The downside is that this product only kills larval and adult fleas. Any eggs (and you can bet your bottom dollar there are many in any cat residing home) are not touched by the treatment. This means all those eggs are able to molt into flea larvae and begin the cycle of flea infestation again.
Don't panic though, so long as the Advantage cat flea treatment is applied regularly each month all those newly hatched larvae will be stopped in their tracks.
The only real issue I have with this product is that it does not affect ticks. I know, if you are vigilant you can easily remove ticks by hand (or tweezers) whenever they appear. But, honestly they really are awful things to deal with and if not removed within 12 hours they can pass on infection and disease to your pet. That seems like a long time in which to find and remove the tick, but with a cat like mine who enjoys a rather long stroll I could easily not find ticks for much longer than this. If left, ticks can remain attached for up to ten days, feeding off your cats blood. I just find the whole idea repulsive and much prefer to use a cat flea treatment which also combats ticks too.
If ticks are rare where you live, or your cat is more of a stay-at-home creature you can regularly groom and check for ticks Advantage cat flea medicine could be just the job. Where ticks are a regular problem though I recommend a combined treatment to ensure your pet never encounters any tick transmitted diseases.
So, for now I will be sticking with the opposition. For a full Frontline Cat Flea Review check out my site.
