Google is one of the largest brand names in the world, if not the largest. As everybody knows it’s the number one search engine, where all businesses want to be found.

Companies will spend thousands of dollars through SEO trying to reach their ultimate marketing goal, to reach the first page of Google for their chosen keywords.

Think about this, at one time the largest brand name was Colgate and just think about how much money was pumped into promotion, advertising, while competing fiercely for prime time TV slots. Finally they succeeded and their product was in every house hold worldwide.

Google, however, does not need to advertise in prime time TV slots to create brand awareness, because it has spread virally. It is a mega search engine which now owns other big name brands.

According to statistics, internet advertising will over take TV advertising in the years to come. Probably by the next leap year.

So how does Goole generate it’s revenue. Well its by ADVERTISING. There are two ways Adwords and Adsense.

Adwords

This is Pay Per Click PPC for short where the advertiser bids on certain keywords and every time a visitor clicks on the advertisement Google is paid that amount. Key words can vary anywhere from a few cents and upto $40. Depending on the subject and competition demand.

Its very easy to sign up to Google adwords and have targeted visitors flocking to your website within minutes of going live. You can set a daily budget, so you can control the amount of spend. It is advisable to target long tail keywords as the competition will be less and more importantly cheaper for the advertiser. Not only this, but your ad will attract a more targeted visitor who is likely to purchase your product.

Adsense

This is a way to generate money for website/blog owners to show relevant adverts on their webpages, if a visitor clicks on the ad, the revenue is shared between the publisher (owner) and google. This amount can never be divulged to anybody, it remains a Google secret.

Its fairly easy to sign up to adsense, the easiest way is to sign up for Hubpages and apply for the adsense account through there. I was approved within three days.

The most important part, PLEASE read through the Terms and Conditions. Never click on your ads, or incentivise others to do so. Don’t cheat the system because you will be caught out.

There are numerous books available on adwords and adsense, Take you pick and master the secrets to making an online fortune.

Hi, interesting hub, just for the record, I heard Google's advertising revenues fro Q4 2008 were $1.89 billion. That's a lot of money people are spending on Adwords!!

Cheers

Derek
